I set up a completely new site on a domain that had been forwarded for a year. The domain generated lots of traffic for about 2 weeks, then Google promptly dumped it. No sandbox, just wiped it out. I sent a request for reinclusion a while back but don't expect to hear back from them.

So I don't know what happened but it almost looks like a ban to me - even though it is a site that is not violating any terms.

Okay, another site with the same script, although a completely different keyword target, was wiped out from Google today. 159,000 pages, many with high PR, completely gone.

The simple answer is violating google rules. If you stay within guidelines set by google, you will not be banned.

BTW the site that got delisted today still has retained it's PR...that's funny. Maybe it's just Google reindexing?

You might not be looking at a ban here.

What sets this site apart from all the millions of other 'search portals' on the internet? If there is nothing that sets it apart, why would google want yet another?

The thing is that the site had a PR of 7, and about 150,000 pages indexed, before it vanished from Google around July 10.

If that site is providing more of what is already in the index, maybe google doesn't want it in the index, regardless of PR and page count.

Several members here complained in the last couple of weeks abou the same issue. Google is slowly fixing their problems.

Okay - are you saying Google is getting rid of sites, or will they reappear after Google repairs itself. :)

Out of interest, though - if I use my own search engine script to index sites, would it count as duplicate content?

    Your answer is here.

    Webmaster Help Center.
You should take a look at the 'Quality guidelines' section.

I don't know, only Google knows the answer.

Btw, you pretty much hijacked this thread.
