Would a .org domain be less significant than a .net or .com in seo rankings?

Just wondering how balanced .org domains in seo are as compared to .net or .com

Its been a debate for so long. It has generally been found that .com's normally outweighs others especially in sensitive areas like sex, poker and make money niches. But generally all kind of sites can rank well.

The only thing you need to consider before getting a .org will be

    1. Will you sell the site?
    2. Will you monetize it?

people do not like to buy non .com domains in general. not everyone is the same. But still many believe .com cannot be outweighed.

.org is generally concerned with non profits. So if you put ads on a ,org site it hurts your credibility

Exactly the same thing, there isn't much difference between .net, .org and .com.

I was posting at the same time as eBusinessCorporate....

As far as SEO there isn't any difference but you might want to take into consideration what eBusinessCorporate added for the reasons he mentioned.

I see. I just plan on monetizing the site. I am really just using it for the search rankings.

It does not hurt your credibility because many charitable organizations put ads on their sites to generate funds to run their organization. Also .org does not means non-profit, I have seen many sites that are making good profit using .org tld. :)

Here is a definition from wikipedia

I hope that answers your question. of course you may see people use it. how many people know smoking is injurious to health but continue smoking?
it's just that when people cant find .com they jump in for .org or .net

I have seen non profits use .com as well. It really depends on the level of knowledge of the person who chooses the domain name. It also depends on his motives

Its really not good to monetize from .org site. These domains are treated as non-profitable sites providing quality content for the people. placing ads may differ from time to time. But still you can earn from them by
    1. Increasing ur pagerank and selling text link ads
    2. From donation. Lots of people donate to .org sites.
