Still in rotation in the Co-op network

I have some sites that I'd no longer like to be included in the co-op advertising network. I removed these sites 8+ months ago.

I'm still seeing thousands of links over multiple domains appearing in live rotation today.

I understand that these links could be appear in the cache file, so I installed a brand new install of coop. The links are still appearing in live rotation in a brand new cache file.

Is there anyway to request manual removal until the co-op is fixed?

 

I know, read my original post. I've installed a brand new install of the co-op, with a blank cache file. The ad appears, in my brand new install, even though all traces of the domain have been removed from the co-op 8+ months ago.



This is a bug, it is feedback. So I don't understand the infraction for leaving it in the wrong category. *shrug*

To make the 100% clear:

• Remove ads from co-op months ago
• Create brand new install of co-op with BLANK cache file
• Wait for cache to populate
• See my 8 month old sites/ads that have been long deleted.
• Clear cache, wait a month
• STILL see my ads in rotation
• Double check all sites have been deleted from co-op
• Post [Bug] In suggestions and feedback
• Receive infraction and nonsensical response.

I've tried to point this out, infact (at that time) my deleted ads were making up 23% of the network.

 

Shawn was referring to OTHER sites' cache files, not yours. THEIR stale files still contain your link.

I have a site I removed from the coop in february 2007 and the links are all still there and rotating in fresh cache....

I have deleted all traces of everything to do with my site from the co-op.

Created a brand new cache file, which is still being populated with my links.

So the dp ad network is still issuing an empty cache file with my deleted links.

Do you understand how the caching mechanism works?

Then this adds more weight to the fact the co-op is very broken.

After this period of time you would expect your site to completely dissapear from the network. It would ONLY appear in a cache file IF a site hadn't received 100 unique visitors since feb/07 - an unlikely scenario.

 

Listen, I don't know why you keep repeating that you changed your own cache file. Changing your own cache file has ZERO influence on the coop, except that your client script will request new links the next time.

About my case: I know how you feel, been there. It's not a new bug and that's about as much as I know about this cache system.

Exactly! It is requesting new links, WHY are my links still being spat out by the network? They don't exist in the control panel, I have no weight. So why?

By creating an empty cache you have a upto date snapshot of the network, as it stands, today. Do you understand why the cache is there? What it's for?

My links shouldn't be being populated into it, neither should yours.

You don't understand how the caching mechanism works.

 

I guess I need to buy a book on DP caching mechanisms for dummies.

 

All the cache does is save the last 100 links that DP spat out. To stop thousands of websites requesting links from dp's servers at once.

So if you clear the cache, you get brand new links also the cache is refreshed every 100 unique visits.

So since Feb/07 you would certainly expect all the website in the network to have received 100 visits.

Therefore you would not expect your website to have any links.

The fact you have still got lots of links is unfair to those active participants of the network.

The fact (last I checked) my deleted adds accounted for 23% of the network is also terrible for those folkes who are active members.

 

Perhaps you could add to the list a fix for the co-op. Old links are in rotation, nothing to do with the cache I see my deleted ads appearing here: http://ads.digitalpoint.com/network.php?c=bababa

My deleted links appeared 14/50 times of refreshing.

I no longer want my links in the co-op advertising network. How can I get them removed?

Shawn, could this change you have made cause me to suddenly acquire ZERO weight down from a couple hundred thousand? On the 27th August, all was fine but upon checking on the 30th its dropped to 0 and seems to be stuck at 0 every day I check it since then. It seems it must be linked to the change you've made since its coincided at exactly the same time.

 

Shawn, its great that you're interested to fix things with the co-op ad network. Currently there is a huge problem with it...in fact it appears to be almost dead. Here is the thread about it http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1477377

Hopefully this can be fixed since it would be a shame to lose the greatest tool you've ever made.
