I'm going to try and explain this the best I can...lol.

Starting a new site and debating on whether to use ajax?

Can anyone help me decide whether to use ajax and not have as many page views but have faster uploading of content for viewers or having entire page upload for more page views and new ads.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

If your site is a social networking one, Ajax is the way to go. Facebook is using Ajax. If it's a blog, why not use the ready-made Wordpress platform?

I don't encourage you to use it coz there will be some compability issue with certain browser.Constant interaction between browser and server can make an application feel unresponsive.

If you are looking at Ajax (Asynchronous JavaScript And XML), you need to specify what you are trying to do. Ajax is great for getting web pages to perform actions or update dynamically. With Ajax you don't have to completely reload the page. This may or may not be useful to you.

Bohol states Wordpress is the way to go for many, many implementations because it is pre-built and the dominant blogging tool with many themes. I would agree if you are looking at blogging.

... BUT ... the core of WordPress uses Ajax in certain areas, like the administration screens. For instance, Ajax is used for instant updates in the comment moderation module. It is also used in WordPress when adding and deleting items from lists ( i.e... categories, blogroll, and posts)

Social networking sites require a lot of dynamic updating and the performing of actions on a page, which is the strength of a technology like Ajax.

Good point, thanks for the heads up on that. Adding that to the cons list.
