Are these articles for article directories? In my experience you don't need to focus on related keywords in your article if the main purpose of the article is for backlinks and/or the visitors you'll get. Instead focus the content of the article on a topic that directly relates to a) the links and b) where the links are going to. For example, you have a Fashion Blog, any article about fashion will do just fine, don't stress about the keyword phrases or keyword density of the article itself.

Agreed. But it would be also beneficial if you can write articles that has interesting story. This will present how well your website through articles that you submit. Don't stress to much on kw, just focus on what will be interesting for readers, this will help.

Keyword rich articles still have some value only if they are submitted under proper category. If your article is related 'postcard' and you submitted it to 'sports' category then it can backfire for you.
I agree with SCsocial, just placing keywords in articles can't make you anything unless you have some quality backlinks from related anchor text.

Keywords in articles are important so that your article will be found by people looking for the informtion or resource you provide. Ezine is indexed very quickly by Google, so it makes sense to have good keyword phrases, which you have researched in your title, and the body of your article. There is some value in increasing the number of backlinks to your website, but use the power of keywords to drive trgeted traffic to your site with article marketing.
In general, try to have a minimum of two keyword pharses in your article, and be sure to use the primary one in your title and the first pragraph.

Keywords are of course important, just remember to not over do it because then it looks like Keyword stuffing if your KeyWord Density starts getting higher than about 10%
