I was looking for statistisc for http://www.theinsider.com/ at alexa and compete and it shows that domain is live from mid 2008. How come this domain has page rank of 9. I see it's owned by CBS, but still, to get page rank 9 someone had to pay lots of money for o get it. Don't they check they give out 9 and 10 at google manually?
I doubt you can bribe google. CBS is very famous in America. It's a tv channel and a lot of people go to the site to watch shows. I am pretty sure it has tons of backlinks already.
It does sound a bit weird for the reasons you mentioned but I don't think you can buy PR from Google.
The site CBS has a very good backlinks and unique.........so dis might be one reason of getting PR of 9 and visitors too....,
errrmmmm.......it shows the domain live since 1997 and has 17,000+ backlinks and 1.4 million indexed pages. Where are you getting your info from? It has every reason to be a PR9.
Here's a screen grab from Alexa. The one form compete.com is very similar. I assume the domain was parked until around May 2008 and didn't have page rank 9 when it was parked. I highly doubt you can get page rank 9 just buy linking to it from cbs.com in such short time. screen grab from alexa http://www.imagebam.com/image/7a960b46888904
Nobody can buy PR you can buy links for sure but not PR from Google they would definitely have tons of quality backlinks thats why they have a high PR like that.
another fishy thing is the number of RSS subscribers; according to google theinsider.com has 336 subscribers at the moment. People.com that you could basically put in the same category as theinsider.com has 982,096 subscribers according to google reader stats
What is the point of page rank when it doesnt equate to positioning? I dont get the hysteria. As I have said elsewhere, I have 5 sites, all with no backlinks, all with no page rank and all are on googles 1st page of results.
Just to clarify your doubts, check the pagerank of BING.COM ( Microsoft search engine). It's Google competitor. The site was launched recently. It has a Google Pagerank of 9. Now, you cannot expect Microsoft to bribe Google. -- Pagerank is a technology which depends on various factors like quality backlinks, pageviews, etc. Domain age does not matter.
I don't think Google would do this for a small amount money compared with what they own. lol. Google is serious in their business and they would not do this.
You can pay me 1 cent and I'll email you a "little green bar" graphic that you can tape on your computer screen. Give me 2 cents and I'll make it a PR 10! Worry about the SERP's, not PR.
The reason that site is a PR9 is because it has many, many backlinks from many, many authoritative sites. Also, although Google doesn't blatantly sell pagerank, if you were to drop some big bucks on one of their Enterprise Servers (http://www.google.com/enterprise/) they will post your testimonial along with a link back to your site from a high PR google page.
PR is all about backlinks, domain age doesn't matter at all and to answer your question: NO you CAN'T buy PR from Google
Most likely this site was referenced widely since it is owned by CBS. I don't think the PR was "bought" in any way.
You cant buy PR . This is big site. Like if any big corp like MS or Google itself release a big site, like MS release Bing.com it will be high PR then theoretically you could imagine.
Sums it up. This is CBS we're talking about. The website is widely promoted, have about 17,000 back links and draws a large amount of traffic.
