Which top level domain is the best for SEO?

Discussion in 'Domain Names' started by hanadaddy, Aug 19, 2009.

I know that .com is the best but
Let's say that I have a domain name want to register but com domain already registered.

But then there are .net, .org, .us, and .info available. I read somewhere .info should not be used for SEO at all.

What would be the best top level domain for SEO among .net , .org, and .us ??

It's not matter as long as your web site have best content and implement the best SEO technique.

Content is the most important but I have noticed that when going after a global market .com is definitely number 1. My experience shows me that people in the US tend not to consider other domains as well, even if the names themselves are the same. For example if they saw 3 domains all the same name, all with the same content one .com, one .co.uk, one .com.au in general they will click on the .com. and ignore the other two.

However, .net seems to be second best, at least for me.

    It doesn't matter.

It really depends on your preference for your website.

Of course the content is the most important factor, but I still believe that the top level domain is important. Any way thank you guys.

Well, whoever said that is not correct. SEO has nothing to do with domain extensions, SEO is all about quality content and good quality one-way incoming links and thats all.

I have found Google prefers .com, then.net, then .org and last .info. Of course the content is also relevant but .net's will get indexed quickly even if just parked.

Luke, Im not intending to be funny but if people come onto this forum seeking advice on a question like this then "IT DOESNT MATTER" is not a serious answer that anyone wants to hear!
Really, Are you saying that it doesn't matter if you have a .info, .net, .us because they are still as popular as a .com?
You have nearly 2000 posts and your giving this kind of advice! Dude, I can tell you this with a little knowledge as i have in SEO... IT DOES MATTER!!!

.COM is, and always will be top level... you can not match and will not compete on the same grounds as a .com!

    Give advisable answers!

1 - .com , 2 - .org, 3 - .net and country ccTLDs for every country in particular (strictly SEO). These domains have different levels of boost, or you can register a .co.cc etc, make the best content and try to rank it...working 2 times more.

The person asked from an SEO perspective - and to a search engine it doesn't matter if it is a .com .net .into or .org. They will rank equally with everything else being equal. The "little knowledge" you have in SEO is wrong. It's time you took the time to learn before you post.

Well, the domain name TLD of your website won't make any difference to your search engine rankings if the content of your website is not good. Hence, it is important that you have good content on your website to have good search engine rankings.

Keywords related to your website in the domain name can give you some benefit in terms of search engine optimization and hence you can search for such domains.

I agree that domain extension would have little bearing on SEO results. Pay more attention to content and application of SEO guidelines and strategies.

I think no problem use any domain extention that's still TLD .. it's up to your capability to have good content and SEO inpage and outpage. :D
