Alexa 60,000, $0 money made with affiliates..help?

I have a techie site at http://www.michaelaulia.com/blogs. According to my readers, I should have been able to rack up thousands of dollars per month with the amount of traffic that I'm having (Alexa is aobut 60k, traffic around 1000 unique visitors a day).

So far I'm only able to earn $100-200 per month with mainly Google AdSense ($30-40 from a CPM)

I try lots of affiliates (Chitika, Neverblueads, CJ, etc) but none of them work. I even try Amazon on my review posts (which received good feedback from my readers) but none of them convert (a few clicks). Well I had 1 conversion but that's it

Am I just not good with affiliate marketing or is it because the audience I have? (techie people know not to click on ads)
Do you know any affiliates that might work with my site?

I don't think it's because you're not good at affiliate marketing but because of your audience. You should try to promote products such as ebooks or software. A techie guy would be more interested in those rather than other products.

Depends in which niche techy they are ... I would try to sell them something more complex, something to think about it ... Think of some tech guy what would he need ? Maybe he is fat because he spends a lot of time behind the computer eating junk food, maybe he desperatly need sex/girl, maybe he wants a new challenge ? Something like kit packages to solve (electricity), some mini modeling or some sort of stuff :) Put yourself in his eyes, think what would you click even if you know not to click on an add.

I am not a pro and I didnt earn nothing from aff yet but I know that you just cant suck at affiliate marketing. Its all about your imagination how and what you will sell ...

    I hope I helped you :p

Your Web site has lots of info, but i didn't find it clear who exactly you are targeting, what you're targeting and what the pain or requirements are of your market. Just being a techie doesn't mean someone will buy something. Target their needs, and make it attractive.

I didn't see any clear call to actions either.

I think, as D3luc3 said, think about what your audience (techies) may need, and target that. Make it clear, with an incentive and call to action above the fold. If you are getting the hits, you need to make attractive offers and reasons to buy.

Since, it's the blog about technology. So it's better if you select merchant which fits your visitors profile... webhosting program may work for you. Would love to invite you our program if you are interested.

Or you can try software merchants.. It may work too.

Google AdSense performs really bad at Technology-related sites for obvious reasons.
Add AdSense only to organic SEO traffic.

And try some software or computer parts affiliates.
Or sell product reviews to software or hardware companies (of course, never publish it at your blog and be as honest as possible while doing that).

Are you sure you've got those numbers right? I'd thought a site with alexa 60k would be getting something like 7-10k daily visitors! :-O

Why so? One of my websites keeps getting 1-2k dailies (mostly from SU and Google) and last time I checked its alexa was 600k and steadily rising.

I mean, I always knew Alexa isn't a linear scale, but I always thought it could be used to make a broad estimate of a site's traffic. If you've got those numbers right, it makes me think it may not be quite so.

    Any thoughts on this, anyone?

AdSense actually does quite well on IT sites.

In fact, because this blog is about so many different tech topics, I doubt that there is anything that will outperform AdSense on this site overall.

That being said, affiliate offers can function quite well on individual pages of this site.

Alexa numbers are only useful in comparing sites within the same niche, and even then only really useful once you get into the sub-10k range.

Yeah, one thing you could do is linking directly to product offer in your post. Your reviews seems great and there's a lot of nice software you could affiliate with, you could write some "honest" reviews about these software products with direct link to the seller.

In fact, try everything. And if it don't works, try something else! Somewhere, you will get some hits. Just don't give up!

We've just launched an affiliate program that might be right up your alley as far as software and technology goes. Check out the Tweet Whistle link in my sig and feel free to sign up as an affiliate. With that much traffic you should make some nice "extra" cash every month :)

    Thanks,
    -Paul

    Hey...Don't worry.
Just try CPALead and place widget code on each page receiving good traffic.
You can easily earn $10-$20 with CPALead.
    Good Luck...

I guess you could call it a bot, we think of it more as a client. It uses the twitter API so it's not "frowned" upon like a bot might be.

    Hope that helps,
