    Hi,

I am going to build some links for my websites. Is directory submission still effective for SERPs and google pr? ( i read some news that it isnt effective anyway few months back).

Any experts here care to share their experiences and advices? Thanks in advance!

No directories are not great for seo value.

Get someone to submit your site manually to about 1000 of them for $40 and even then it's not money well spent

If you can get links from good directories then every link is worthy. Try to do submission to free directories as its free and also look for good quality paid directories which get a decent traffic and have a decent PR.

Yes in a way they are. Only try to submit to High Quality and reputable web directories Like Dmoz etc. By submitting to High PR Web Directories you can do better in SERPS.

I think the problem these days is the damn no follow tag.
If you're looking for a higher PR, then yes, but be sure the directory hasn't "no follow" tags.

Directories are a great way to manipulate your inbound link text - use them to build brand based links into your site. Stay away from keyword anchortext. e.g. Use anchor text like:

    www.mywebsite.com
    http://www.mywebsite.com
    mywebsite.com
    my website

It is still effective if you get listed in Hi PR page. If you get listed low PR page: Forget it! (due to most directory only get high PR in it's homepage)
I prefer more blog post than submit to directory. It will give you more than get listed in low PR page.
