Does anyone even bother clicking on Adwords?

I was thinking of trying to get my website high up on google using adwords, but when talking to a few people they all said that when doing google searches they never bother to click on them.

I'm wondering how widespread is this?

I'm just wondering whether its worth using adwords to try and get my website noticed more?

    Thanks.

Despite being net savvy and on the internet for good amount of time, I still end up clicking on a few ads for various reasons. However majority of internet users (those who are not technical) still do not know that their click would earn some revenue for site owners - so all in all there are publishers making a lot of money and thus a good reason to have ads on your site, just pray that you position them well and that you get clicks.

I have adblock plus installed so I don't even see the ads. However many people do. Many many people, and many of them click on the ads.

I guess people will click on the google ads if the headline is attractive. I click on Google ads sometimes.

As far as I know a friend of mine works in a company that spends around $1500-$2000 for Adwords every month. It depends on a niche and then it depends on your product.

Yep, if you know what you're doing, adwords can be worth it. If not, you can waste alot of money very fast!

I too think it all depends on the market. I own an Auto Detail and Restoration business in Houston, TX, and it works well for me. I get more business than I can handle. It works well because once I'm booked 3 months in advance, I can pause the campaign until I need the services again.

    Hi Simon,

Ive just looked at the site in your signature and if this is the site you want to advertise on Google AdWords you will do very well out of it in my opinion.

My only concern for you will be how far you could travel or get users to come to you for the portraits. Google will by default advertise across the UK so if you want to target your specific region then make sure you set that up when you set up your campaign.

    Good luck with it all

Funnily enough, I only started clicking on ads after I became an AdWords advertiser, since I could see that Google does try to ensure that the ads are relevant to the search query. I've found some good companies and services through ads.

    Thanks for the replies

Hi there, thanks for looking. To be honest if I get any commissions I think it will just be a case of the person mailing or emailing me a photo of their pet and when I've finished the portrait I can just mail it to them, so hopefully it won't really matter where abouts they live.

I often click on sponsored links, because I figure that if the site is willing to pay for traffic they must be promoting something right? So if I'm looking for somewhere to purchase something online, I will often click on sponsored links because I (rightly or wrongly) presume them to be more established and trustworthy because of the money involved.

I hardly ever click on ads within people's sites though, unless I want to give them a little tip for something I like - nice way to give a small donation I think :)

    Yes, people click on ads.

Paying to be on first page of search results pages is worth if you sell something and your niche is very popular and big sites are on top page.

If not in a hurry and for long term, create a good site, create backlinks, write articles, post on forums, find the right keywords.

I have clients that spend over 1000$ monthly even if with some keywords they are in top 3 on the first page of google. They can afford it and it is worthed all the money. Use all the tools available to become successful.

People definitely click on ads. Run an ad with a popular keyword and you could easily spend $1000 a day if you had the budget. And if you can optimize enough so that you're making $1500 from that... you're making pretty damn good money. Obviously your going to need a large amount of money to keep that going until you get paid, especially if you're only paid monthly, but if you build up to that point it can be done

I very seldom click sponsored ads in search results personally. I find the organic searches to be more relevant. I got fed up of clicking through to a site to find it was just an affiliate site or otherwise useless.
