Just a hobby...anyone into aquariums, or planted aquariums? My family is....we have what's called a "Diana Walstad" or "Natural Planted Tank," an NPT: -the tank has many different plant varieties, a betta (siamese fighting fish), and platies. The water is never changed, a totally biodynamic, natural tank - the plants demand nitrogen and other macro nutrients (potassium, phosphorus) that is derived from a surplus - yes, a bit of overfeeding - of fish food, and fish waste. Plants soak up CO2 and kick out O2 during the day, so no need to bubble the tank....and no need for filtration. Lighting is energy efficient, spiral bulbs, and sunlight. The other tank is similarly set up, with cardinal tetras, otocinclus, dwarf bristlenose, and amano shrimp: Pretty cool. Anyone else into this? Pics?
I wanted to have a fish when I was little but they keep on dying so I quit nice aquarium you got there...
Hahahah - well, thanks, folks...but I guess I got it backwards a bit, since I was running saltwater tanks back in 1975, part of a Channel Islands marine research project, on re-establishing heavily hunted species from the island system....even had a pet moray eel...named...hold on...."thatsa." You figure it out. I grew up on the coast, dove a lot. These days, a hobby I can easily do with my son, and I tend to prefer plant life to marinekeeping. @webtor...thanks!
If I had a few grand I'd get a big tank and set it up... would be much more interesting than hanging art on the walls.
