Best tool to check your backlinks?

    Hi,

What do you find is the best tool to check your backlinks? I use - http://seopro.com.au/free-seo-tools/link-checker/ - and it seems to work pretty well compared to others I have used.

One thing I don't understand is that when I use the 'link:' command in Google it's telling me that I only have 8 back-links and then if I use the tool above I have 12,000! Why is Google saying I only have 8?

    Thanks

If you don't mind, I'd also be curious to see software included in here. Paid or free. I'm looking for a site or software that will accurately show my backlinks, whether they are dofollow, and the pr of the page I'm getting this backlink from.

dear, when you use 'link:' command in Google for example 'link:www.example.com' google will show link pointing to www.example.com (home page) only.
I suggest you to check links for some internal page pages individually.
    'link:www.example.com/page1.htm' etc.

    in between good tool.

backlinkwatch shows 1 backlink to new site, yahoo site explorer show 3, but none of the 3 are from the 1 on backlink watch... hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

All the mass delivery checking tools pull inaccurate reading, due to where it gets its info from,

    Ah well, i like .linkdiagnosis.com

I downloaded the SEO Firefox tool which will look up every link to any website you type in. The best backlink software out there is SEO Elite because you can compare Page Rank of multiple websites at the same time and you also can see what links the "top ten" in Google are sharing so you can attempt to get that link as well.

It depends on what you want to do with this list of backlinks.

If you want the list to determined the quality of the site, then the best place to look is in Google Webmaster Central under 'Your Site on the Web', in the section entitled 'Links to your site'.

Keep in mind that this will show you much less backlinks than you will see in yahoo or backlinkwatch or other backlink checking tools. And there is a very good reason for that.

I recently wrote and published an article entitle "Where Are All My Backlinks?" that explains in detail.

    I hope this helps.
