before i noticed alexa toolbar determined your sites alexa rating...so one could keep refreshing their site and keep installing the alexa toolbar, and the sites would change their rating, but now i noticed its not helping change my alexa rankings.. so does that mean alexa actually is accurate? how do they calculate the rankings if not thru the toolbar?
i dont want to hijack thread but there is another problem about alexa i guess? Normally it was refreshing sites ranks every 3 days, but till a week ranks didnt changed? Is there a problem or did something changed alexa like ash1 told?
My alexa ranking hasn't changed in ages either, despite my traffic altering drastically. Not sure whats up.
Same here... Been stuck with the same alex traffic rank for about a week now... Its had been moving up significantly until then...
Alexa's rankings have never been accurate. IMHO Alexa's traffic rankings are useless. Fun to brag about but other than that useless. BTW, mine hasn't updated in about 2 weeks.
Whether its useless or not, its still a unique and interesting site measurement tool. One could argue all day about how important any site statistics are. Just like baseball stats, maybe thats why I love both. Anyway, for the curious my stats are still stuck, someone must have an idea of why...
I was also seeing updates at a more regular pace, but that seems to have slowed down a lot lately. Not sure what is up.....
Hey ash1. To answer your question.. can you please tell me your latest Alexa rank. I know this thing works, but when you get a 'good enough' alexa rank (Closer to 1), this technique of artificially improving alexa rank would not work. For example, one of our site is at 12k, using multiple alexa ranks installed by all of us who work on the site. Now it won't improve further. Infact, it can drop a few thousands in rank, but once you get in the competition, it gets difficult. Its the same concept as for Google Page Rank. It is easy to get PR 3, PR 4 and PR 5, but the higher up you go, the difficult it becomes. bonjurjes, I also noticed that Alexa didn't update this week. But it has happened a few times before. Maybe Alexa is doing some updates. But I do hope they do something about the links they show. Some of the sites I'm working on have a lot of links indexed on other search engines, but Alexa has been showing only 12 links since I started working on those sites. I check Alexa regularly for my sites. Here is a list of the dates when Alexa recently did the updates: Mon 22-May Thurs 25-May Mon 29-May Fri 2-Jun Mon 5-Jun Fri 9-Jun Mon 12-Jun Fri 16-Jun Fri 23-Jun Mon 26-Jun Fri 30-Jun Mon 3-Jul Fri 7-Jul Mon 10-Jul Mon 17-Jul Fri 28-Jul The last update was on Friday 28 July. Haven't seen any change in Rank after that.
My sites haven't been updated either, for around 2 weeks now. I've skimmed thru both the Amazon Web Services forums, their newsletters and their blog and none mention anything about Alexa not updating. My guess is they're either backed up on their update or something's gone wrong.
I don't care much about Alexa rankings--who believes in them-not reliable at all in my opinion. My site is still ranked one millionth
Yea, my site hasn't updated in 3-4 weeks either and I've had some huge increases in traffic. I know alexa isn't accurate but it's fun to see sites move up the ranks.
