What script to use?

Discussion in 'Directories' started by webguy84, Jul 31, 2006.

    Hello,
I am undecided about which script to use to create a directory. I am considering www.wsnlinks.com and www.phplinkdirectory.com. I downloaded the free version of wsnlinks but I am finding it quite hard to handle it. With regards to phplinkdirectory I didn't find any free versions for it and I am considering about purchasing it. If anyone used phplinkdirectory can they give me an idea about it. One question is, can I create various submission types? [such as free listing, basic listing and premium listing]

    Many thanks

Is phpld, both free version and the paid version.
Easy to install, easy to template, easy to do anything.

    Look in the http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/
To the left side column, for Latest Version, phpLD2, click on the phpLD2 and you can then download the free version.

    http://phpldtemplates.com/
There you can get some free templates, paid templates and custom templates, plus categories.

I was going to say something, but it seems you already have some replies. Also, if you want a demo of the admin area for the script, just send me a PM.

    http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/dmdocuments/phpLD2.zip

here is the link for their free version.

I suggest you buy the 3.0 because it comes with alot of versions like the new version which is about to release ... you have to pay one time , and you get access to all the latest versions.

I have tried all the directories, and find phpLD the best.

I suggest you buy the 3.0 version, because alot of templates are available :)

    www.phpldtemplates.info

    or

    my own template www.domaining.in/downloads/index.html

    good luck

I've been using a script called Site-Sift listings. But it's lacking a template system!

And after seeing lots of people recommend phpLD, plus the templates I'll give it a try. It looks very good :D

I use Esyndicat Pro and love it. There are quite a few skins, I have
done my own. It is very easy to skin in my opinion. And the support forums are A +

It's been said a lot, phplinkdirectory is a very nice script.

Consider also taking a look at http://script.site-sift.com/ a nice script which a also used for the directory in my sig. Forum members at site-sift are creating some nice mods for the script making it even better.

Webguy84 if you are really serious about making a go of your directory then I think both PHPLD and eSyndiCat will suit your needs.

WSN Links is difficult. I have a directory running it, and it is a logistical nightmare, I have had to get professional assistance with it, to work the way I want it to, and its taken some time. I still think WSN Links is a very good script, it's just not user friendly like the other 2 that have been mentioned.

If you do go PHPLD, please skin it. I think a mistake that people make is they just grab PHPLD and get one of the default skins. I have seen so many with the peppermint theme (which is a fantastic looking skin) that they don't stand out from each other. To really be successful I think you need to try and create something unique. PHPLD can be made to look very different. So if you choose it, please skin it.

Very good point. Unless you have no design skills at all, don't use any of the really popular templates out there, and definitely don't use the default one!

If you want powerful directory script with great support team that actually will be behind you every step instead of just ignoring your questions there is only one choice and it is not phpLD...

Simple question: why do you think eSyndiCat forum gained more users in the last 3 month than phpLD has in total?

If you can figure out the answer to this question - you will figure out which script to use...

That is actually something I have been watching. It seems eSyndicat forum has more users, but fewer posts per day.
phpLD forum only has 655 Active Members but there are 43 active threads for "Today's Posts"
esyndicat forum has 2,110 Active Members and 26 active threads today.

I would attribute this to a different method of accounting. I would make the assumption, though I don't know exactly how they do it, that esyndicat automatically registers new users of the script as members of the forum. If this is the case, I think I figured out your question. :)

Yea, I would agree with David about the number of forum members not necessarily meaning much. Anyone can look around this forum and the Internet in general and see that there far, far more PHPLD sites than eSyndicat sites.

    hrmm lets seeeeeeee

    What's more important?

    A. The amount of users a forum has?
    or
    B. the *Activeness of a forum?

    'You' decide!
