Once google index your site, it will be better that you dont change meta tags again. It would be spoiled your past promotion work.

I don't understand the problem. Of course changing the MT will effect your rankings, espcially if you change the Title. But why not using it for your purposes? I mean, choosing the right KW and implementing it in the MT's so SE will take notice of your site with relevance to those KW? you can always change MT's

Changing content will definitely affect your rankings coz ranking is all about good quality content and high quality incoming links.

and I dont agree to this changing a template cant affect your rankings. But if you change your website from a text based site to a fully flash loaded site that would be a different case.

I tend to agree - changing templates will not harm your rankings, but usually, when changing templates, the site structure changes as well, and so, until to upload a new site map, rankings will be affected: Inner pages that achieved rankigs will probobly "suffer" the most, but the HP can be effected as well

but remember that rankings solely depend upon the quality of and incoming links if that remains unchanged then all the other things are just minor factors and they cant change your rankings alone.

Yes, it could have an positive or negative effect on basis of what is changed.

If they changed to better keywords and content now. It would be better for you.

As I have already mentioned that except quality content and one-way incoming links all the other things are just minor factors. Changing your keywords or description wont change your rankings changing your description to a much descriptive text that contains your keywords would be a better option.

Sorry, i think you are not correct.

Rankings are effected by dozens of different factors, and one of the most important is the qaulity and qauntity of backlinks and inbound links. But, changing some MT's, site structure, site content, KW density and so on, will most defenitely cause for chanegs in ones rankings.

yup I agree to you, but you can ask any SEO expert that the most important things to rank high are high quality content and good quality on-way back links and all other things do affect your rankings but they are very minor.

As an example the other things can be play role when your competitor has same no. of and quality of backlinks as you have then in this case the other things can play a role (this is just an example).

I hope you would agree to this.

When we moved to a new town, we had to change the meta tags to "website design bury st edmunds" rather than the old town - for 4 months I could do no good: every seo improvement I tried, we went up inthe serps for 4 hours and then fell back down to no 9, even though many of the sites above us had fewer links and were less optimised. After 4 months, Google lifted whatever penalty it had put on and within a couple of weeks we were no 1 for "website design bury st edmunds".

Beware of significant meta tag changes but do them if the long term benefits are worth it.

Sorry, dear friend - NO. It's not that i think that back links does not have great value, I Just think that other factors have lots of "weight". for an example, i know of a site that has way much more backinks than it's competitors (around 150 K) for a rather non competative KW. It's PR is 5 and still, it is ranked only at the 3rd SERP at Google.

There are so many examples that will show you that backlinks are only ONE important factor and not the whole picture...
