Get a SEO plugin, I suggest http://techblissonline.com/platinum-seo-pack/ then, Edit robots.txt and block the duplicates. Simple. Wordpress is very search engine friendly, with tweaks.
there should not be any duplicate content issue for wordpress if you dont use tags and use excerpt on the main index page. even if you use tags, you can use canonical url to avoid duplicate content issue. URL can be very search engine friendly if you select custom permalink and put the value "%postname%". there are wordpress seo plugins avaibable as well but you can make your WP blog SEO friendly with only few tweaks
So you're saying we are supposed to use excerpts on our main page? Whoops. The problem with that is, I need the first post I have "stickied" on my blog to be the full thing. The posts under it I'd prefer to be excerpts but there is no way to my knowledge that I can do that.
