I tend to enter a meta description and keywords for my blog posts, however they keywords comprise of pretty much the words in the description, am i doing something wrong? Thanks.
Both megta description and meta keywords should have your targeted keywords. The main difference is just that meta description was in paragraph form, describing what was the site is all about. Meta Keywords is just a plain set of keywords separated through the use of comma. Targeted keywords should be enclosed on these two tags and of course in your title tag
Don't worry about the keywords tag - google doesn't read it at all and yahoo only uses it to back up what it reads on the page.. Unless it's stuffed with obscenities or words that are completely irrelevant I woudn't give it a second thought
I don't think your keyword and description should be same. Keywords will be more comprise of topic of your site.. but description is a short sentence which does not need to contain keyword. so design a new one for your site.
doesnt matter, keep your keyword(relative) in the mera title, and also related description in your meta desc., if you keep the exact title and desc with relative body content then it will result in link bating, which is also not dangerous if you commit once.
Thanks for the info everyone, i use wordpress, and my description is a different more comprehensive explanation of the post in comparison with the title, the keywords however are similar to the description, is it ok if i stop assigning keywords all together? do they help at all? what about tags in wordpress? thanks again.
"Meta" Title: should match post title. It's not really a meta tag. Title of post should be a keyword phrase. Last post: "How to Manage Your Downloads Better On Firefox" New last Post: "Download manager for Firefox" or "Managing downloads in Firefox" or "Firefox download management" etc etc If you aren't using Platinum SEO Plugin, use it, if you are: make sure all the boxes in options are checked EXCEPT: Use Tags for META keywords and Use Categories for META keywords.
Do not stop putting in keywords in meta tags. They do serve their purpose. The description is basically what people see when they search in google. You have to make it under paragraph form or people will simply not click in the results and visit the page. If the description does not make sense and it does not tell you what the page is about, why click on it? The title is also equally important as it also has to show you mainly what the page is about. If someone does not find what they are looking for and they are deceived in description and title they will simply bounce and close the window. That does not help at all. Use all of them, especially in wordpress as it is quite easy to work with wordpress from meta tags point of views.
Searchers in google will see the snippits of your post with the related keywords in bold if the description is left blank. You can leave the description blank if your content is strong...
Thanks for the replies, i don't usually use my content to target what they might be searching for so i use the description to capitalize on that by using a description that is keyword rich, also amy I don't use the platinum SEO plugin, i use All-in-one SEO which is a lot more popular and serves pretty much the same purpose i think.
IMHO I don't believe that is the best approach with Wordpress or choice in plugin, but best of luck anyhow!
