    Smub

Can you explain this to me?

This is supposedly your design correct?

Well, when you stole the design from me, you forgot to change one small thing. THE DETAIL PAGE CSS

Here is my template. You obviously changed some colors and stuff, but forgot to change the details page.

ok, to make things even, how about if I take some of your templates, and offer them for sale on my site? After I make about $1000 from them, ill remove them. Sound fair?

I think he was in a hurry to release his first design (I dont know whether it's his first one)...it happens, few months back when I made my first one, I was also in a similar hurry to show people 'look at it', 'Even I can do it'.

I posted that in phpldforum and 'an0n'(aka Rob) was the first who reviewed. He knew that the design was too simple and also it was not looking good, but still he encouraged me a lot.

He(smub) maybe made a mistake, but still I hope he can deliver good ones in future. ;)

    There is another problem here.

You may notice on the footer of his template the link "Sponsored by alive directory".

I spoke with the owner of Alive today. He paid smub for a unique design with the agreement that it would be distributed for free with the alive link in the footer.

Not only did he steal my work, he also took money for it from a sponsor.

I know Chris from Alive Directory will be contacting him as well.

umm pardon me SiteExpress for giving me a bad reputation.

Is it not possible, that i use your text files because i liked it, and felt it was more easily reviewable ?? It is true that i used your template css file as a starting base, and i am not going to lie. I was trying to make it look better, with my graphic skills. Thought i would contribute a little bit to the community, but i see no one seems to like it.

I would say sorry to you, and all who thought i did something wrong, and i will avoid it in the future. :)

That qualifies you as a THIEF! in the eye of a rational human being.

an0n i send a personal message to sitexpress as an apology note.

I would like to say that i am truly sorry to the community for doing such an act, and i will tolerate it in the future.

    I am really really sorry.

I am new to all this directory stuff.... only a month experience.

I hope you also sent an appology AND a refund to MystikMedia as well, because he sponsored this design and it was a 'paid' for.

You just cannot go around making templates and taking other people's stuff code for code. Everyone offers an incentive of inspiration in one way or another. You just need to be able to take that inspiration and build upon it and create something of your own.

I you need advice, ask someone. I do it all the time, and you can ask SiteExpress(jamey hates me for it :p but he still gives an honest level of criticism, and i truly appreciate that). If you need influence, just look around. There are tons and tons of great designs for inspiration.

You really need to redeem credibility at this point, because Jamey and Chris are two people whom I help and consider to be great people.

I am curious of a couple of things.

    1. How did you obtain my template?
    2. Do you feel you owe a refund to Alive Directory? He paid you for unique template, and you gave a rippoff that took very little effort on your part.

As you know from visiting my site, it is a business. I earn an income from hard work and constantly addding new things to my business. I dedicate about 60 hours a week to my business, and then someone comes along and takes it.

You sent me an email asking if you can use my template to make yet another one for yourself?

What are you smoking? Of course you cannot. Do what I did. A few months ago, I could not even do html, but I put in a LOT of hard work and taught myself much much more.

If you want to make template for phpLD, I will support that. Hell, I even list competitors templates on my site. BUT, dont ask me if you can take my templates, change some colors around, and then sell them for yourself!

I am requesting that you pull this template from distribution.

You do not owe me anything, but you owe Alive Directory a full refund for the money paid to you for a unique template.

    ok Thanks Jamey

I pull of the redistribution link, and its no longer up.

I will start working on my own, and if it is ok i can ask for your help.

I am sending an email to chris.

Of course you can ask for help. I spend a great deal of time in the phpLD forums offering it to people in need.

if you get stumped, send me an email, post in the forum, or PM me. I am always happy to help.

Considering what happened I am removing this template from my site www.phpldtemplates.info
And guys don't be hard to smub. I spoke to him on MSN before this came up. He is 15 years old boy and his aditude after this shows that he didn't relise that code is also considered copyrighted. I belive he ment that is enough to change design.
Anyway, smub now you know what shouldn't be done and don't do it again. Correct your mistake and learn to make your own templates before you start doing it again.

    Yes,

he is young, and did not know. Part of the problem with young people working on the net, is that they must also accept the fact that they will probably be spoken to, and treated as adults. If you are gonna run with the big dogs, you better be able to carry your own bone.

smub is now designing his own psd, and I will be helping teach him code it. He should have his very own template out soon, and I am anxious to see his work.
