1. Google stopped using DMOZ data 3 years ago 2. So what? Listing in DMOZ counted by G. as one backlink the same as our directory. Taking to account that some sites have high PR without being listed in DMOZ, I don't know what is big deal if your site is listed in there or not. fastreplies
1. I didn't know that. Are you sure? Did they published something about it? 2. There is no big deal. It would be just a backlink with decent PR.
1. Check G. search results and see if there is any reference to DMOZ data 2. You mean from decent PR fastreplies
Just a few months I first found out about DMOZ from a Google help page where they mention that they're crawlers start from DMOZ. @caprichoso: I don't think there much more that can be said. Yes such a situation would be a conflict of interest and I would hope that they meta-modding system can handle that if it were to occur.
http://www.google.com/dirhp?hl=en Check the footer. I have to say that finding Google directory is not easy
I don't think that any DMOZ directory has "a lot of traffic". People will come from Google as always.
Well I never said G. dropprd DMOZ Directory, what I said was, it dropped DMOZ data from SERP Can you see the difference? fastreplies

If G dosent use dmoz data, why do RDF updates get captured by them? It must be used some where in the algo, otherwise they would not bother with dmoz at all. It may well have downgraded the importance of the data, but it is obviously still useful to them. I do believe that dmoz is not the "golden link" that most web masters believe it to be.
You are confusing 2 sets of balls: God given and bowling. Google is maintaining DMOZ directory but it stopped using DMOZ directory as criterion in search results. Old webmasters remember when G. would have links that was listed in DMOZ on the top (as some directories have featured links) and then the rest of us poor slobs sites. G. changed that and now DMOZ is getting in SERP as much wait as AMRAY or any other top directory. fastreplies
Of course I can. But we can't be sure how much Google is using DMOZ in SERP. I guess they don't use it as before. But I'm not completely sure they treat DMOZ just like another site. About snooks confusing what you wrote, there is a great deal of posting around here that will show you it isn't personal.
Again, I never said G doesn’t use DMOZ data, what I said was, it stopped using DMOZ as it main source and show DMOZ data in SERP as main source. Now, if it's going to brighten your horizons, I can tell you, yes, G is using DMOZ data in SERP but so is AMRAY and many others directories based on G algo. It may come to you as a surprise but you will find results from DMOZ way behind in SERP and reason for that is poor quality of Titles and Descriptions offered by DMOZ. Example: Company Information, Fans site, Official site etc. and that was Descriptions. As I said before, simple minds would like to believe that if they get listed by DMOZ, then their lives will turn around and they become rich and famous overnight without realizing that they are subscribing to a myth. fastreplies
..and yet we get a fair number of queries asking how to prevent G from using our description as the snippet instead of whatever's in the site's metatags . No argument from me there .
WOW Jim, that was first one I thought I will never live to see the day when you would agree with my about anything. Hey, that was good start and as soon we'll get to agreement that AMRAY should be re-instated in DMOZ, I'll promise to leave DMOZ alone. Just kidding! fastreplies
Sorry Jim I neglected to reply to your first part "first". What Meta Tags Jim? Have you checked lately if any of so called Webmasters has been using them at all? I just went over 200 directories and none of them has any Meta Tags included in HTML not even 'follow', which explains why G would want to have at least 2 words DMOZ has to offer. Hopefully I answered your question. fastreplies
Apparently they choose to grow very slowly because they were brought on line in late 90s and they still have very few pages in some categories. Google uses their index.
