Music-related site: worth it?

Discussion in 'General Business' started by musicguru, Aug 20, 2009.

What would it take for you to frequently visit and participate in a music-related site?

I have this discussion with numerous musicians and music related businesses... but never with average joes/janes, who are the truly important people to a site's success.

Even more, what music related websites do you love / have to visit daily? (ex: Pandora)

If you're doing it to make money, you're up for a big challenge. If you want to do it for fun or promote artists, then you'll be fine.

Well, right now it'll be for fun... then once it's secure enough to start monetizing, i'll begin to do so :)

So, what sites do you like that are music-related?

*btw, I recently found blip.fm and love it :D

imeem is another great site, and what impresses me is that it's not even hit it's limit... there's so much potential still! :D

I have just started using spotify which I think is brilliant- I think it will challenge a lot of music websites and become an important channel for new music - the only thing is it is yet something else running in your system tray taking up resources

Hmm, never heard of this program before... just took a look at it and seems pretty interesting. I'm fine with having it running in my sys. tray if it's worthwhile :)

This reminds me a bluenote, and old beta program that was very rare and brief... and if this is the case then it'll def. have great success.

I totally agree, however is there something specific (music-related) that you would think isn't as saturated?

I'm the owner of XtremeMusic.net and it's very rewarding. I can't say how much it makes yet, because I just relaunched it. But it's fun if you love music. Plus you get to stay up to date on music news.

    I say go for it.

Though sites can profit greatly, I am not looking to make thousands off of a music site... it's really all about having fun :)

Would you like a site that allows you to make music on it? Like the site provides music, and you just record away? :D

If you want to do it because you like it - go for it!

Yes, I think you will get a lot of attention if you offer services where people can make and record sounds online. Quite a good idea!

I like Pandora, though I hate that Pandora limits the songs you're able to scroll through. I visit Yahoo music, I like watching music videos there.
