Teen runaway to avoid being killed, should she be returned?

First off, this isn't intended to be a religion bashing thread so let's not go that direction.

This girl who just turned 17 ran away from her home in Ohio to Florida after converting from Islam to Christianity. She's in protective custody with Florida's Department of Children and Families and is expected to be returned home.

She says she doesn't want to go home to be killed as an "honor killing" and that her family has no choice.

Do you guys think she should be returned home, or not? Should be put in protective custody or just let go?

She should go to court and get emancipated from her parents and then she can do as she pleases. When does she turn 18? This becomes a moot point as soon as she turns 18.

if state of florida has a reason that she is in any kind of danger then obviously she should not be returned. an if they have abused her then they should be prosecuted.

Better yet she should be protected like being in some witness protection program because in an honor killing her parents or siblings can also come after her later even after seemingly forgetting about the situation later.

We have discussed this topic before and we have shown that Islam doesn't care if you chose it or ignore it.

If that girl want to disbelieve, then let her delay this untill a loving christian mislead her gently.

My prayer for the muslim family:

May Allah guide your daughter if there is goodness in her heart, but if there is no honesty in her heart, then may Allah give you in replacement of her another wonderful noble daughter.

In my opinion, something is strange about anyone that is overly obsessed by religion, especially a 17 year old. Look at her clutching her bible...

She should be talking on the phone and having fun with her friends. I'm glad they got her away from the pastor, but I don't think they should make her go home either.

Polite teen, it's very telling that you chose to pray that this "dishonest" young girl eventually be dragged back to the death cult you call Islam instead of praying for her safety after her family threatened to kill her. I think it demonstrates perfectly how even so called "moderate Muslims" are willing to turn a blond eye to barbarism and murder so long as it's done for Islam.

PIZZAMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LIFE IS NOT A FAIRY TALE!!!!! :)

(Assuming that the girl is not just trying to use the religion thing in order to run away from home or make her parents look bad or suffer,)

If there was not any kind of danger for the girl, would she run away and seek the help of the authorities?

Somehow, I just can't imagine her father telling her: "oh, dear daughter. You made your decision. I disagree but I respect that and I will still love you forever". In that case, she wouldn't run away, wouldn't she?

    errrrrrrrrr..................

We will see in the day of judgment who is the moderate one.

For me, this is not the whole life, but for you this is it.

Hence, your langauge is narrow mind language, but I should be judged according to my own language which is open mind one.

I prayed for the girl and for her family in my language that is too wide for you to comperhend.

Finally, I have a question for you:

Do you think lies should be finished or encouraged? why?

That's untypical of you to comment a most general and banal sentence without even reading the article discussed....

    Well... here's the opening abstract:
    hmmm... interesting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honor_killing#North_America

    North America
A 2007 study by Dr. Amin Muhammad and Dr. Sujay Patel of Memorial University, Canada, showed how Islamic honor killings have been brought to Canada. He wrote: "When people come and settle in Canada they can bring their traditions and forcefully follow them. In some cultures, people feel some boundaries are never to be crossed, and if someone would violate those practices or go against it, then murder is justified to them." He also noted that there are hundreds of cases annually in his native Pakistan. He added that "In different cultures, they can get away without being punished -- the courts actually sanction them under religious contexts"[34]
Honor killings appear to be rare in the United States, because only a few cases have made major headlines. On New Year's Day, 2008, Yaser Said was accused of killing his daughters Amina (18) and Sarah (17) after finding out they had boyfriends (named Eddie and Eric, respectively).[35] Said remains at large and has been featured on America's Most Wanted. In July 2008, John P. Avlon (of the New York Post) claimed that the death of 25-year-old Sandeela Kanwal (allegedly by Chaudhry Rashid) as an "American Honour Killing."[36] The Muzzammil Hassan case has been characterized by some as an honor killing.[37]
An article in the Spring 2009 edition of Middle East Quarterly[38] argues that the United States is far behind Europe in acknowledging that honor killings are a special form of domestic violence, requiring special training and special programs to protect the young women and girls most subject to it. The article suggests that the fear of being labeled "culturally insensitive" prevents US government officials and the media from both identifying and accurately reporting these incidents as "honor killings" when they occur. Failing to accurately describe the problem makes it more difficult to develop public policies to address it.
