Is it possible to ping Google to index a non-blog or individual page? I know there's pingomatic but that's only for blog homepage URLs. Unless it can be used to submit any type of website? Does pingomatic or google mind that? It would kind of strike me as an abuse. The reason is that I would like google to pick up on a couple of social profiles of mine from a few (community) sites - since they contain my backlink. Or let's say for a few forum posts where my backlink signature is located. Obviously one would want their backlink campaigns to be counted. Is there an alternative, general ping service? Thanks.
I would be leary of pinging Google too mutch. A sitemap works just fine. If you ping Google to mutch it will trigger a spam alert. No short cuts in the SEO field.
I use Pingler and it has a lot of Google sites that it pings. I don't know if that's what you mean or if you're talking about Google itself. -Danielle
ping services pick up on a site's rss. If the site/page you ping doesn't have an rss feed, it's totally pointless, if it does, and some social media sites do e.g twitter, then ping it.
I haven't pinged Google once. Although WordPress pings services automatically, so I wouldn't know better The XML Sitemap plugin for WordPress, or other method of creating the XML sitemap and then submitting the sitemap to Google Webmaster tools is plenty. Add one social bookmark like Digg and new blog / website is indexed in couple of hours. Not much experience on non-blogs, but I'd think it works the same way.
Yes, it could be done and it's quite helpful most of the time specially with deep inner pages/articles Try using any pinging tool available online, like Pingler
It works with Pingler and some pinging sites, but not all of them. If you need a page to be indexed that doesn't have RSS feed, use social bookmarking. I prefer JumpTags for this; I usually get my page indexed within a few hours.
Yes you can i use it all the time. I use pingler and jumptags aswel provides great results for me and my clients(I'm a link builder) though i only ping the site once.
You can always code your site that whenever its updated it pings google . ping is to tell google that there is a update
Thanks so much for the advice. I had heard about social bookmarking before but for some reason didn't dare to touch it yet. Jumptags looks great! So is it ok to share bookmark collections of my own profile URLs? We're talking lots of profiles here with backlinks to my affiliate blog and I'm afraid it would be considered shameless self-promotion (= spam) and hence cause a ban or something.
Barnacles, I just found out that jumptags is nofollow now. So it's useless! Does anyone know of an alternative free service that allows to publish one's bookmarks as dofollow? (No digg or reddit please, you're bound to get reported there for submitting profile URLs)
