WTF? Scotland freed the Lockerbie bomber on compassionate grounds, allowing the terminally ill man to die in his homeland of Libya and rejecting American pleas for justice in the attack that killed 270 people. The White House said it deeply regrets the Scottish decision, and U.S. family members immediately expressed outrage. Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, who had served only eight years of his life sentence, was recently given only months to live after being diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. KISS MY A**!!
I'm English and I agree! Apparently the Scottish Government rang up the British Government in London for advice beforehand... the advice they got: "As you've now got your own Government it's your own problem." I love it!
I hate Labour too, but my current no1 hate is the SNP. They're not pro-Scotland, they're anti-English. The cunts are ruining our country.
I dont agree with the decision. OK, so hes going to die, and hes not going to be able to do any more harm, but he was sentenced to life, and its life he should get.
The decision was right. The Scots made me proud today. It's the kind of decision that wouldn't happen anywhere other than the UK (except maybe Australia and Canada).
Well I don't want to get involved in this flame thread, but I'm half scottish too so paws off the Scottish population!
I'm Scottish and I totally agree with the decision that was made. The guy is dying. He's pretty much incapacitated. Allowing the guy to live out his last while in this world in his home country with his family around him is the decent thing to do - even when taking into account his past. Not allowing it would just be inhumane. Can't say i'm a big supporter of the SNP but I still agree with what they chose to do in this situation.
hmmmm...considering that he showed the same compassion to my nephew and my sister as well as 267 other "human beings", you may be right...NOT!!!
As if what he did to those innocent people was very humane... What's the point of punishment if it's not going to be carried out fully and "compassion" is shown?
He wasting even guilty, he was prosecuted on evidence that has now found to be false/very very weak at the very best. If he is dying, no matter what he did, he deserves to be released - just because in America he would get life or capital punishment in some states, which is just plain wrong and makes the Americans just as bad, doesn't make it bad to free him here. He is going to die anyway, his mother doesn't even know he will die in a very short time - giving him the right to return home and die with his family, in the country he is from is the only humane thing to do.
It's really just a matter of opinion and I can see why your opinion lies where it does. Also, I don't think that people affected in any way by his past should be making a decision like this - they will obviously have a bias view. I'm not saying he is a humane person. I'm saying that we shouldn't be inhumane just because of his past - if we were then who is really the better one? Oh and the point of jail isn't punishment. It's rehabilitation.
A punishment is a punishment. Its not just intended to the prepetrator but also serves as a warning to others. A fair trial found him guilty, if thers new evidence now that say hes not, there should be a re trial or soemthing. He shouldn't just get free pass like that even if he was terminally ill.
Well said Lowster! Your title made me laugh! Particularly I wanted some fools in Scotland to do that! LoL.
Ditto He could be dead by the time the appeal is over, I personally think he would win an appeal. He was convicted on evidence from a person who picked him out of a lineup of criminals - the person that picked him had seen him earlier that week (along with his picture) in a newspaper article, and that is why he chose it. He got a life sentence, and he spent his life in prison - he now will go home and die in peace. Ever heard of grammar? It is humane, whether he was guilty or not. Another way to look at is that England has a huge influence on the decision, and I think they wanted him to be released, as the blame will got to Scotland so they can get what they want with no blame from the USA (where he would be inhumanely locked up or execute) - if he was in England I think they wouldn't have released him as they would have gotten the blame.
