Thank you.
Try to buy Mikrotik from mikrotik.com, you can find router which already have build in: router - wifi - bandwidth manager - user auth - firewall and many more at one hardware. And the price is not so expensive.
Thanks so much for this information did you test it, and dose they ship internationally ? Is this trusted vendor ? dose they provide support after buying the router ? where is this vendor located ?
As far as I know, Mikrotik is very popular router in the world, they've been use at many country. You can try to find local reseller for Mikrotik router. I already use Mikrotik for controlling some of my network, but I use type 450G, without wifi, because I already have stand alone WiFi and I use this router for control all my network include with cable. this is very good for bandwidth manager and load balancing router. I also use it to control who can access internet for browsing or access internet for send and receive email only. Who can get more or less bandwidth. Who can get big bandwidth for browsing, but the speed will be reduce automatically if they are download software, and many more... It can be control remotelly with small Winbox software, it is attach to Mikrotik hardware. I think this is very powerful hardware for route the world. For support, many community talk about Mikrotik, I think you can ask them for your problem.
Generally you need a router with load balancing features. check the manual before you get one.. they are of course a bit pricey than the regular ADSL ones.
If looking at WRT54GL spec, I think this is only ordinary WiFi router with no bandwidth management function. You can use any standard WiFi, and Mikrotik will take over the rest for manage your network. So you can choose: Standart WiFi + Mikrotik (without wifi) or Miktorik Wireless Router The price is not much defferent for both of them.
as mentioned mikrotik is popular choice.. if you want options.. 1 Updated 3rd party firmware for existing routers are available to support such features.. 2. Look for Tomato Firmware ( polar cloud com ) << experimental btw 3. Use a old computer with bandwidth control software ( linux / windows ) and you are ready to go.. Pentium 3 is good for this as well. They act as your DNS and DHCP server. disable DHCP in your router You manually add your IPs on the router and your victims / users use internet through the computer we have set up.
why dont you just integrate the mac addresses of those computers you want to give access. i think this is a better solution. more control over whats going on.
You need to get an ISA system to do the job. Set up a controlling network via a windows client server domain with an ISA server. We tried routers to divide our lan network (ip phones, clients, programmers and other users) it was no use. All users ended up getting the same bandwidth and priorty after fudging all the settings on the SBS and trying linksys, cisco we went to ISA server.
