I am loving wingrep Once you extract all ten of the text files you can search them for any keywords you desire Like i said the Ringtone and free ringtone search has made me SOIL my self!!!! Too much Information Dr N p.s call me an ambulance!!!!!
Man if you like wingrep you should definitely get a Linux box and see what you can do with grep, awk and sed combination. There is no limit. Windows sucks in text file manipulations.
Oh this is awesome. Goodbye inaccurate keyword research! AOL just laid off 5,000 people, I think they will need to adjust that number soon - they won't be able to give their service away now!
Ahhh Do you think this was let go in revenge I forgot there were 5000 people laid off This should serve as a warning to all companies!! DR N
Brother Hextra! My linux box is BROKE hence wingrep for the moment! I agree with you but when information comes your way you have to act quickly This is why i posted the linux AND windows version of grep as whatever we recommend some people will never use linux Dr N
Brother Puerto Rico, Link is Here http://www.gregsadetsky.com/aol-data/ and grep tool to extract data for linux is below: http://pegasus.rutgers.edu/~elflord/unix/grep.html Windows grep tool: http://www.wingrep.com/download.htm Dr N
Just a note... once I finally do get a web site going I'll be providing a way to let people flag search phrases as "identifying" (SIN, Phone #, Etc). If I agree, then the phrase will be suppressed when viewing results. I'll give the data a quick once over to attempt pre-identification of such records. All this is of course an attempt to avoid violating anyones privacy, as I do take that type of thing seriously. P.S. 100% downloaded.
If I would be hosting this file with a webbased interface I sure would remove any phone numbers, addresses, social security nrs etcetera and also the personal id column. dont want the fbi ripping your box out the rack but seriously you can probably get in trouble hosting this stuff.
Here's the Reuter's news release if anyone is interested: AOL draws fire after releasing search data "This was a screw up, and we're angry and upset about it." - LOL
does anyone have tips on how to extract good keyword lists from this data? I wish I went to my statistics course classes.
So this is pretty much like christmas for webmasters? I'll be downloading this as soon as i get home from work.
peach, Link is Here http://www.gregsadetsky.com/aol-data/ and grep tool to extract data for linux is below: http://pegasus.rutgers.edu/~elflord/unix/grep.html Windows grep tool: http://www.wingrep.com/download.htm Dr N
yeah I'm playing with grep now but instead of reading 100k search strings I would like to know the top 100 search strings that contain my keyword and that sorta stuff, can wingrep do that?
