Take a look they couldn't control the dupes like DP is doing so eventually they instated a policy that works.

I like the ones who get all legal sounding on your ass and explain how they have a right to be somewhere and that you are wrong for banning them. I have daydreams of just slapping these people as hard as I can, repeatedly, with both hands at the same time, just so I can see the stupefied look on their face when they discover the alternative to a civilized banning isn't any better.

My favorite are the ones from China who insist their right to freedom of speech is being inhibited because we don't allow them to spam affiliate links all over the place. lol

It seems to me that there is a vast difference between "spammers" and "community members".

At one time, four of the people on the "Top 30 DP posters" list were banned. That's more than 10% of the best members. Before the listing was disabled, the number would constantly fluctuate around 3 or 4.

This isn't a case of a bunch of Chinese spammers dropping links to iPhone knockoffs.

Things are amazingly better now that Shawn is back, but it's too soon for me to forget how ridiculously sucky this place became during the reign of Shawn's lackey.

Post count has nothing to do with "quality of a member". If people with high post counts break the rules, they are treated the same as someone with 5 posts. He'll, I would argue they should be treated more severe since they clearly know the rules from being around so long. People that think they deserve to be allowed to "bend" the rules because they have a lot of posts are severely mistaken. The opposite is true if anything in my mind.

Ya thats easy to say !

But you forgot that if those TOP 30 members had not been there, this forum must not have got the top ranking as it has got now due to some TOP (and many more) members !

    You should respect them !

Doesn't matter what they have done (or not done) in the past. Post count has nothing to do with some quality score for users. The least number of infractions ever given is a much better indicator.

And either way, established users should know the rules.

Why should some people get special treatment?

If this makes any sense, I don't like to see people get banned, but I like seeing the high post counts getting banned now and then. I can understand that the longer someone has been around, the more they've contributed and the better people know what they're likely to do next, but knowing that nobody is immune to a ban is a good morale booster for everyone else. I watched a presentation titled "How to Protect Your Open Source Project from Poisonous People" a couple of years ago that wouldn't hurt anyone to watch, programmer or not.

I never get the Chinese affiliate freedom fighter hate mail, I delete those accounts as soon as I recognize them when I'm able.

My respect is not based on post count (just like in real life, I don't respect someone based solely on how much money they have). I respect people who are honest and sincere and wise (oh, and being polite goes a long way with me), not people that try to break rules, or think that they are above the rules. People with high post counts that scam, shill, bump, create duplicate accounts, or spam do not deserve as much respect as the newbie with 100 legitimate posts.

Since banning occurs due to a large number of reasons, I can't imagine mods determining between valid reasons to be in touch and pure moaning... and look like I'm just coming back from a banning and I never tried to complaint nor do it know... but wanting to participate actively again :D
