I'm a novice at SEO. Can anyone help me? As a amateur web designer a few years ago, I designed a site for a small, local communications firm in Dallas, Texas. While the design of the site did stand the test of time, about three months ago, it was readily apparent that it needed a makeover, so I was contacted by my former client to redesign the site. I basically took a Wordpress template, doctored up the coding, and did some decent graphics work to redesign the site. Not up to Fortune 500 standards obviously, but the site looks 10X better than it did. Now the client is concerned that the website is not populating in the various search engines (Yahoo, Google, Bing) like it should. He, the client, also points out that searching for his firm via the search engines return lackluster results. Thanks for your help. http://www.a-linecommunications.com
Perhaps you need to do a seo overhall on the site. Was the site performing in the search results before the new design was implemented? If yes, then I would offer to spruce up the seo.
No, the site was not performing well at all, worse than now, in the search results. I decided to SEO the site (the best of my knowledge) a couple of weeks ago, but no real significant boost. I attributed the lack of search results to a lack of content on the site. There's hardly any information there. Is it lack of content? What do you see that I should do?
Honestly it could be lack of content. It could also be that the site is targeting a poor keyword or phrase. Have you done any backlinks? What is the url? I will take a look and see why the site is performing so poorly.
Even if you get backlinks I don't think it will rank, because the content is too short. Try to put atleast 300 words in the home page.
Lots LOTS more content needed to show highly in results Things to add: (in no particular order) Testimonials Products offered including brands/models etc. Regions covered Staff profiles An original glossary of relevant terms What this company is different than others Hopefully links from product distributors Memberships Certifications If they want the site to perform, there is a lot that needs to be done which will cost $$$. It may not be worth the effort unless they are dedicated to the task
try to make the description on the homepage a little longer, this way you can target your keywords better and not look like you are keyword stuffing.

I have not done any backlinks. The URL: http://www.a-linecommunications.com. Thanks for looking into this for me.
Probably it is because of the permalink changes. When you change the site to wordpress, what type of permalink URL you choose for inner pages? I suggest you to set this permalink to earlier type. Or, you could redirect each page manually using 301 redirection. There are wordpress plugin 301 redirection too to help you on this.
Here is what I have found when I ran your URL through the html tool at submitexpress.com. I have put the more serious issues in bold red below. Title: 69 A-Line Communications - Voice/Data Networking, PBX, Cabling Solutions Robots: 16 noindex, nofollow Meta tags analysis. Title: Title meta tag contains no errors. This tag contains 69 characters. Title relevancy to page content is excellent. The Title relevancy to page content is 100%. Description: Found no description meta tag. The description meta tag is used by most of the search engines. Consider adding a description meta tag. Keywords: Found no keywords meta tag. The keyword meta tag is still used by many search engines. Consider adding a keyword meta tag. Robots: Spider robots are not allowed to spider the web page. Spider robots are not allowed to follow urls from the web page. Author: Found no author meta tag. This tag is not really required but helps for your (company) name recognition.
Alright, I'll give free review for this: First of all your domain name is not really good for SEO. For SEO purposes, you need to get a targeted domain name or at least targeted web page. For instance, you want to be ranked in "free web designing service"? Then try domainname.com/free-web-designing-service.php and optimize that page. Secondly you don't have meta description and keywords. In Google, if you go to its result pages, you will see description below every site title. Google gets it from your meta description then your content. So basically meta description does help a lot. You also have this: <meta name='robots' content='noindex, nofollow' /> You should remove it. To disallow Google indexing some of your pages, make robots.txt. For more guides, check this thread: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1463907 Download them and enjoy!
You have to make sure that you have setup/code the following for every page: Title: This will be the title of that page, Better to inlcude the keyword of the page too in the title Meta Tag: some tags/ keywords Meta description: Give summary - what does page offers Keywords: Include the keywords Then, Make sure you are getting more backlinks.
