Assisted Suicide?

More painful, more messy, chance of living, hard to plan, if you're caught in the process you become a criminal, etc.

Plus some of the religous bunch think they'd go to hell if they did it themselves right?

 

I agree with it personally, when someone is in so much pain and there is no hope of recovery then sometimes death is the kinder option. Again this should be done by a medical professional rather than a member of the family.

 

Probably, (if it HAD to be done), but then there's a bunch of legal issues from Malpractice when the deed is done...

 

It depends where it's legal. I'd never advocate a doctor doing it (or being pressured into doing it) where it's illegal. A lot of people in the UK fly to Switzerland or the Netherlands where it is legal.

Cyanide in the right dose instantly kills. And it's often found in rat poison. The whole doctor assistance thing gets sticky, ...you might find doctors that try to influence you, rather than it being a personal concious decesion. I'm sure some asshole would want to make a profit off of this....

Cyanide salts are sometimes used as fast-acting suicide devices. Cyanide is reputed to work faster on an empty stomach, possibly because the anion is protonated by stomach acids to give HCN. Famous cyanide salt suicides include:

* Erwin Rommel
* Adolf Hitler (likely, see article on Hitler's death)
* Eva Braun
* Joseph Goebbels
* Hermann Göring
* Heinrich Himmler
* Alan Turing
* Odilo Globocnik
* Martin Bormann

 

I also heard it was incredibly painful. I know there are some poisons that are in fact fast acting and relatively painless. It's an option if you are in the situation I suppose.

 

I assume most people kill themselves not because of medical reasons. It's a slippery slope if you allow profit off of suicide. JMO>
