Low Competetion or No Competition Keywords?

I never really used keyword tools before I always just typed in what I thought people would type in. But anyway who cares...

My questions is What if you found a great keyword phrase that has no competition at all. I mean NONE - not low competition.

Which would be better? A keyword phrase with low or no competition?

and its not a keyword that doesn't make sense either.

That's going to depend on how many people are searching with that keyword, and their intentions (not to mention what you want to do with the keyword). Generally though the higher the search volume, the lower the competition, and the more in line with my objectives a keyword is, the more likely I am to target it.

Id Go for keyword which is popular with people.. because if its popular, there is bound to be competition,, whats the use in optimizing a keyword with no competition & no popularity..

Hey, the more you rank for the better...there are a million ways to make money off rankings....justa ocuple:

    a) take 2 years to rank for a super competitve transactional term
    b) rank for 10000 keywords that get 1 search a month...

both will get you the same traffic, but one you will dominate the long tails and low competition kw's.....

if you do low search volume keywords you have to do a lot of them for it to make sense, unless of course you find a hidden GEM with crazy good conversions

Thanks that makes sense to me. There are so many low search volume keywords I have found. Also, the great keywords that strangely have no competition and no searches I'm going to experiment with those.

getting good serps for keywords that are not searched seems like a waste of time unless you are just trying to learn. Though I would prefer to learn on something that may pay off.
Usually you will have several Main keywords and phrases to target for the long run and then find a large amount of long tailed keywords to target for the short term. The long tail terms pay you while you are striving to get into the main niche and to get some serious traffic.

If nobody's searching for a keyword, then it's not worth your time trying to optimize for them. What you want to target are keywords that have a lot of search traffic yet little competition (unless you think you can beat the competition, which usually starts becoming possible after a year or two of optimization).
