Yep she's old, but she isn't in the army. She's a policewoman, and so is another picture (of an exemplar having highly oxidized hair). There is one picture of an older army woman. Given however that she's a brigadier general she should be at least in her late 40's if not more. All the other soldiers are 18-20 if they are enlisted. If they are officers, they'll be around 19-21.

Incidentally, the official "out of base" uniform used to be unflattering to many female soldiers, and they used to open a seam in the pants and sow it back again so that the pants would sit lower (against army regulations...). I think the army somewhat redesigned the pants, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, the army does faithfully represent the late teen's early 20's age group since service is mandatory for all (actually it compulsory for non-orthodox jews, male and female, for Druze and Circassian men, while the rest can volunteer [some Christian arabs and many Muslim Bedouins do, the rest don't]).

As for the discussion of religiousness of these female soldiers... If they were on the more conservative side they would be wearing a long skirt or if very religious (orthodox) wouldn't be in the army at all...

 

A lot of young Israelis are not religious these days, and religious mainly in a traditional way.
