Hi there guys, I run a football highlights website which shows replays of manchester uniteds premiership matches. It doesnt host the videos it just shows them, the videos come from the bbc, sky sports and other large video broad casting companies. Is my site legal?
If those sites are allowing viewers to share their content through embedded code, I don't think using them should be illegal.
Yes, as long as your only linking to the video and not hosting them on your server, tho the FA may email you one day.
So as long as I embed them and dont host them then its ok? Could I offer my users to download the video through uploading.com? Is this also ok?
Don't link to torrent websites though. Could you use BBC's Iplayer download service in some way? If you don't host the content and store the media on your website then your site is perfectly fine.
You can embed the videos to share them if the sites give you the code or link to sites where the visitors can see the replays, although it's not a good idea to catch the flv files and host them in a tube video site to embed in your site.
if you really have to ask yourself that, I think it is something you should try your best to avoid lol
There are several Rochester attorneys who deal in assisting entrepreneurs like you regarding such cases. And, I agree with Bobchrist, in case they let viewers share their content through embedded code, it shouldn't be a problem. Contact Cellinoandbarnes.com
its not ilegal... I ahve something like that but for Argentinian Soccer Matches... They have sent me a letter claiming copyright and the couldnt take me to court as there wasnt any reason to do it. Bye
It's not illegal if you show the videos from the main site. How ever like you asked can you make your user download them. The answer is clearly no.
It's the same answer for all you guys asking "Is my site legal?" No, it's not! If you didn't create the content you can't use it on your website. It's that easy.
lol this guy wouldn't know, its fine aslong as you add a disclaimer saying: that all videos are hosted on the other sites (name the sites) all rights reserved
The only people who will say it's okay are the ones who are doing it themselves - usually the endless anime embedding my site is just fine and dandy totally legal clones. In most cases it's not legal no matter what bullcrap disclaimer you put on your site, but the chances are they'll be going after the bigger guys hostings the videos in the first place (youtube etc) to take the video down before they ever get to you.
Its legal if its embed. Like youtube vid. Correct me if im wrong. Just don't upload the file for people to save.
You're wrong. You can technically be sued for displaying youtube videos. A website owner is responsible for all content they display on their website.
