Is there really that big of a difference between dofollow and nofollow backlinks? Is a nofollow completely useless? Can they help for ranks and not just traffic? Thanks guys
To build backlinks and rank well, you need to comment on dofollow blogs(Stay on topic and don't spam) Commenting on nofollow blogs also gives you some traffic if the blog you comment 1. have high PR 2. Getting massive traffic Also if your comment is useful and you comment early for example you are the first one to comment, chances are high to get more traffic
DoFollow : it means tell google bot go to the sites. NoFollow: it means tell google bot not go to the sites.
No follow is not completely useless.. It can increase traffic to your site.. Consider using no follow sites only when you need backlinks.. Both are useful in their own way..
As others have said, nofollow links are not COMPLETELY useless... However, they ARE useless in helping you rank at Google. They have zero impact on rankings at Google according to Matt Cutts and other Googlers who have discussed the topic publically (like John Mu on Google's Help Forum). It is said, however, that "some" search engines may actually count nofollow links. I personally never intentionally "farm" nofollow links, even for traffic as I have more productive things I can do w/ my time to increase rankings and traffic than commenting on blogs and such that nofollow their links. Besides, why should I provide them useful, relevant feedback on one of their posts to give them more relevant content and help their post rank if they cannot even throw me a bone and allow my link? I don't mind posting an occasional comment on moderated blogs... but not those that are strictly nofollow.
I think both are different we not say that no follow is useless i think no follow also give some traffic!!!
nofollow will not directly help in SEO but there are indirect help like, traffic, people might find your page/site interesting and link back with DoFollow later. DoFollow links are direct help to SEO...
Do your own experiment and see. I think you will be surprised. No follow links do help with your serps, they just don't pass as much PR and supposedly they don't pass anchor text. They are followed by g and the info is stored away on their server farm. Take everything g tells us with a huge grain of salt. Rely upon observable evidence first. Look at the sites ranking on the first page, and analyze their links from a reliable source. You could also run a test by making a 'honeypot' page. Have only one 'no follow' link going to that page. Then wait and watch that page get indexed! They have an uncanny ability to index pages that you don't want the general public to see and using 'no follow' certainly doesn't mean they will not follow the link!
A link is not useless even if it is nofollow! Do you think Google tells the truth on every front? I doubt it. I bet if you had a site will 100 backlinks all from dofollow sources and another with 500 backlinks...but only 50 from dofollow.....the one with 500 would rank better!
DO follow back links help you to boost up SERP in Google while NO follow does not. So it doesn't mean that no Follow are worthless. No follow can help you bringing traffic to your site . If a no follow backlink coming to your site from a High traffic site. And the links is sending u tons of visitors. IMO it is better than a do follow links which coming is from non relevant and poor webpage to your site.
Every one read above. According to me this is the best answer from my 1 year experience in SEO. I have worked on lot of sites and I found that sites having both nofollow and dofollow backlinks have higher PR than the sites having backlinks from only dofollow sites
When it comes to google search engine, only dofollow link gives credit either to pagerank or serp ranking. So, nofollow link don't give benefits to google. But, nofollow links still gives benefits to other search engine like Yahoo.
