What's Wrong with My PC?

Yesterday, I left my PC idle for about an hour. When I returned to it, the screen was blank and everything was unresponsive. I had to reboot to fix it.

Today, it happened again. It seems that, whenever I leave my PC idle for a while, the screen goes blank and everything becomes unresponsive.

Last night, it happened when I tried to play a video. That's the only time it has happened without my leaving the PC idle.

The strange thing is, if I play music and leave it idle, it doesn't happen.

Anyone know what the problem might be?

Might be a problem with the display drivers on your system. Try downloading the latest drivers for your display.

Thanks, but everything's already fully updated.

The problem's getting worse. If I leave my PC idle for just a few minutes, it happens: the screen goes blank and everything becomes unresponsive.

Sounds more like the sleep mode has become corrupt. What specific os are you using?

I'm using Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 3.

I don't think it's the sleep mode setting. Everything just becomes unresponsive. It happened again just now. Even the Caps Lock button on the keyboard doesn't work. The screen just goes blank and that's it, nothing works.

Have you checked to see if your CPU is not over heating as it sounds like a heat issue.

Either that or something's come loose from the heat. That's a pain to track down as it really could be anything.

I had worked fixing PC and setting up networks when i was in high school most of the people neglect to air blast their systems as the HS fan can get pretty damn clogged up and start providing heat issues which lead to system lockups and BSODS.

It sure seemed like an overheating issue. Better check your system fan for dust accumulation.
