I'm curious why dp doesn't move up by turning it into a freelancer portal with blog and proper market system? something like sitepoint but without the hefty fees they have?

I believe DP will eventually fall apart and this can already be seen by the huge drop in quality posts and the amount of good freelancers.

    anyone agree?

DP was never meant to be a sole BST forum, it's much more than that ;)

Well every member has different views on how dp should be or should have been, but the final verdict comes from the owner himself :) and as far as i know DP won't ever turn into a freelancing portal..at least for now.

As Shawn recently noted in another thread, the marketplace is not the priority for DP.

And keep in mind - DP is a webmaster community, not a freelance site. It just so happens that it's a good place for freelancers to be. That doesn't mean the community should revolve around them (coming from a freelancer btw).

I think DP have fair marketplace and it's running for many years without any problems. As stated by others, DP is not depends on BST. Many people here come to get knowledge which DP have and many big guns learn SEO and other things at DP.

The way DP is now (minus any obvious bugs/problems etc) is perfect. Why turn it into more of a site-point site? DP is meant to be a standalone message board, very simple. DP's concept is simplicity and efficiency. This is the reason it's active and visited so much, and also the reason not many changes are made nor is there a crazy forum design.
