I have been curious if I should worry, becasue one f by blogs doesn't get updated very ofter. Maybe once or twice a month. However, I have a few posts that draw a good deal of traffic, and can count an regular, lengthy comments. Usually these comment are as long as the actualpost. With that, I ask does comments actually "count" towards adding content to the site? Or is it looked at differently by SE's.

They probably would if they had keywords and/or links in them (and there wasn't a nofollow tag setup). The thing is the less often you update, the less often robots come around to visit. When you publish new posts, most blog platforms auto ping directories to let them know that you have updated. It's not the same when people leave comments.

I'm no expert, but I can't see how SE's care about pinging. Regular non blog websites don't use ping, and the SE's see them just fine.

This is something I was very curious about a while ago, so I ran a simple test using text that was added to my oldest Blogger blog (DomainBlog.net) back in May, 2005:

Unique text tested: "Love to try and grab fixmybody.net"

    Y!: Yes!
    MSN: Yuppers!
    Accoona.com: Yup!
    G: No beans

I'm no expert either but from what I understand pinging directories entices the robots to come and index the new content on your site much faster. I've noticed in my own practice that after I send out a ping Googlebot comes for a visit and also I do get updated on Technorati.

It may all just be SEO hocus pocus but it can't hurt to let the directories know you have new content on you site right :)

Firstly, Having original content is what really really matters. And that's what attracts traffic.

I have always considered comments as an important aspects in my blogs.

Because 1) They might prove to be good keywords.

    2) You come to know how much people are liking you blog. So they jut act as a driving force for me thus raising my morale which further raises the speed at which i post.

So u see whole your problems can be solved by getting comments as you'll post more when you feel good about it.

Try asking questions and feedback in your blogs. That helps getting comments
    :)
