We had a guy show up at a class reunion in a kilt (it was my wife's High School in Virginia... a guy showing up at a Texas reunion in a skirt could get hurt). This particular guy also showed up with his boyfriend, so I'm guessing he was celebrating more than Scottish roots. I know, I know... brave men have gone to war in the things wielding the mighty claymore. Not picking a fight with anyone with roots across the water, there's a tartan or two in my ancestry as well. I'll go watch Braveheart and Rob Roy and pretend we didnt have this chat.
Well it's your lucky day (or you could have just searched back in this thread for my posts...i'm sure theres a few pics of me in my kilt around here) Well we ain't all like that Anyway: I'm the one on the left for those who don't know/can't work it out. The other two are my brothers. Have to say that after seeing these pics I like my brothers jacket better than mine...and I liked my old kilt better - this ones too bright.
I thought kilt color/patterns were supposed to symbolize a particular family or clan or whatever. Shouldn't you and your brothers all have matching kilts?
They usually do. My family doesn't really have a specific one cause my dad isn't Scottish. I like to adopt my mums side of the family and take their kilt - my brothers chose generic Scottish tartans (actually I can't remember if they are generic ones or if they are just the ones in the shop that they liked...). The one i'm wearing there is generic but thats only cause it was in a sale and I was getting too fat for my other one... If it were one of our weddings i'm sure we would all be wearing the same but otherwise I doubt it'll happen.
I never knew a kilt came in more than 1 (red) colors... Whats that hanging on your waist? I can see it has some tools sort of stuff, but what is it?
Your pics? Surely ur the only one who could have uploaded them in the first place, so u already have them
Erm...a belt? Or do you mean the sporran? Theres no tools on either...the sporin is for keeping stuff in (I had my hip flask, money and phone in there...) and well a belt is a belt.
lol kinda...I guess They are also usually made out of seal skin/fur (or used to be)...and I think it's original purpose was to stop the kilt blowing up at the front in the wind.
At first when I saw those pics in small size I thought they are girls. But when enlarged it, got to know that its three men. - Digital -
Sporrans hurt while doing ceilidh dancing and stuff though, you need to twist them round to the side of your hip.
Bet you were gutted eh? can't say it works that well - energetic movements (for example while dancing) are more likely bring it up if your not careful.
You get yourself a girlfriend, there, Nin? It's amazing what you can do with a little bit of rohypnol.
Missed this the other day... They don't really if you have them positioned where they should be and you dance properly. Well unless your dancing consists of pelvic thrusts or something
