Hi I have a site that is mainly made up of static html pages but within the site is a blog section that is powered by wordpress. Recently my blog ranks higher for my keywords than my static html pages. Even searching the domain name keywords on google brings up the blog first then the static html home page underneath. I'm not complaining as its helped getting more traffic but i was wondering if anybody knows why google seems to prefer my blog? Thanks Zander
Sorry to wake you up, but its not 1998 anymore, static sites don't really exist anymore, everything is dynamic, powered by Javascript/ajax/w.e at least by a tiny bit, i suggest hiring a coder for 50 bucks or something to add some features and dynamics to you website.
Ok well any suggestions on apps that will help with more dynamic content. I read that dynamic content was bad as SE couldn't pick up on it as well as html.
Yeah, it's all about Dynamic content. It just so happens that blog tend to be updated with frequent, new, original and relevant content, helping it rank better.
Joomla is very flexible, i don't know what suits you since i haven't seen your site, but its very flexible
I took a look at joomla and as far as i can understand its a cms. I'm already using dreamweaver for my sites and i'm not sure i want to switch to a new cms. I looked into some Ajax/javascript apps but i couldn't really find any apps that would enhance my site. It mainly has reviews, tutorials and articles on it and the blog covers news and small articles. Any suggestions?
It is quite possible that the blog section was getting update a lot more frequently than the other main section of your static website. Google loves updated content & reason why the blog was getting highlighted more than your other sections.
All dynamic content can be turned into search engine friendly static .html content with programming and some server settings.
They lot active sites. However if you have a blog but you haven't posted on it for a long time then it is just the same as a static site.
Google Loves fresh content. So It happens. Wordpress CMS is enough and best. If you want to be loved by Google more, Add a forum also in your site.
the only thing that blogs have then static html pages is blogs can ping google and other search engine, social networks, etc for your latest submitted content then if it qualify as a fresh unique content then its top of the list in Search engine while static html pages needs to follow websmaster guidelines like sitemap creation, create inbound links and etc
People should also note that all these blogs on the top rankings are 80% ads and 10% content. Seems like a 2 paragraph article gets preferred treatment. It's like all bun and no beef. Gotta love blogs...not.
I would disagree with this belief. The truth is that Wordpress blogs are optimized much better then static sites.
Yes, you can get the same effect from your static pages if you update them frequently and optimize them. Wordpress optimizes pages right out of the box, so its good, especially since you can put your title in your URL, google likes that, but you can do the same with html pages, just takes some elbow grease.
