I found this interesting article through Google. In it Jon talks about using a domain name (without an actual website) to simply redirect to an affiliate link (such as your BDT link). In effect, it is much like advertising the normal link; however, there are several advantages: 1. You can post this domain name in places where you couldn't post an affiliate link (the example he gives is some distributed articles). The URL itself gives no indication it is going to be a simple redirect, after all. 2. You can use them in places without anchor texts ('anchor texts' being the text displayed, other than the URL itself, in a normal HTML hyperlink), such as forum signatures. They look a lot cleaner and will garner more attention there. 3. Using a domain name for a period of time, especially while building traffic, may pay off in the long run when you can turn around and sell the domain for a higher price after you have finished with it. He has four more listed as well, check it out! http://www.artofmoney.org/7-reasons-to-use-domains-for-affiliate-links/ If you are interested in forum marketing( i.e., through signatures), this is definitely something to consider. - Submerged
Yes...redirects is diffently a great tactic. Marketers have been doing this for years...including myself. Thanks for the great info. I'm sure it will help a lot of others. Cheers, Gary
I do it also. I use .info's from godaddy though because they are $1.00 a piece heh. And I like to promote a lot of different offers. A lot of Affiliate Networks do not like this though so don't get caught and stay under the radar
some forums ban re-direct link too. play attention to the forum rule. The other way is writing a pre-sell page on the affiliate and send them to the affiliate link from the pre-sell page. i found out pre-sell can increase conversions rates significently
I think it's sort of a waste. Sure, it works fine in some places, but building a site is the only way to rank in search engines. Search engine traffic is high converting free traffic. I just can't imagine giving that up because you're too lazy to make a simple landing page.
Yeah, I can see where a landing page would be an advantage over a simple redirect. I suppose my main issue is making sure I would actually recommend the product I'm promoting in a landing page (as opposed to making up false praise simply for money) . . . but I suppose I should be before I advertise for it anyhow
