    Hey guys,

My laptop randomly shut off today and I need it for tomorrows presentation at work.

I have a Compaq Presario 2100. When I turn it on, there is a black screen that says

"We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully"

When I click Safe Mode, I there is a whole bunch of messages like that say

    "multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW\"

A whole bunch of different messages.

When I click Start Windows Normally, there is a Windows loading screen and the computer shuts off.

What do I do? I hope this is the right section.

Well, if you are able to open it in SAFE mode then try to restore the settings to an earlier date via SYSTEM RESTORE.
And while opening in Safe mode you need to wait a little bit... so that it opens.

How about when you enter your BIOS setup and let it be for a couple of minutes, does your laptop restart too?

you must check if your fans ( heat sink ) are working properly. laptops dont take heat and they restart after 10 minutes or so if the temperature rises. your BIOS must be able to check the temperature.

XP and it doesn't restart randomly. It restarts after the Windows Loading page.

Seems like you screwed some settings or some windows files got deleated.

Try going to BIOS and go to Used last setting which worked........ save and exit and then check out.
Again try going to Safe mode and restoring to a previous point.

Last option "FORMAT" and re install XP takes just 45 mins and your presentation is tomorow :d

I tried reinstalling the windows but nothing happens. I put in the cd and turn the computer on but still, I get the same options as before without the cd.

use a bootable CD and boot the OS. For that you need to go to BIOS and set the first boot devise as CD. Hope you know how to BOOT, Format and install XP.

Youll need to do that. BTW can you go to bios or even thats not possible???

Yup, I can do into BIOS. I'm currently formatting the windows. So I'm guessing everything will be fine from here.

This only cost me one infraction because I never knew the Hardware forum existed. LOL

    Thanks everyone,

Hope you got it running untill now!! Bad luck for the infarction. Laws have been strict here :(

Dinglehead repairing the windows installation is pain. easiest is to format and load a new copy :D only hing is time consuming and you need to take a back up of your data in the D drive. or any other than the OS drive
