Marketing a Facebook Group on Facebook

I have just started a new face book group today and want to market it to other Facebook members, without adding everyone as a friend.

I'd like to invite people from other groups, but I'm worried that it will be classed as spamming and result in me being banned. Is there a way around this, or is there a better way of informing other Facebook members about my group?

I wouldn't recommend it but people do it all the time and i haven't heard of anyone being caught. it is however, against their policy.

You could try the Facebook ads if you have a budget. There are a few vouchers kicking around which can get you started for free.

Ways Businesses Can Get the Most Out of Facebook

I recently discussed Twitter as a great source of traffic to sites, but the even more popular Facebook can do and is doing the same thing. In fact, reports have Facebook driving even more traffic than Google to some big-name sites.

Facebook gets over a third of the number of unique visitors that Google does according to comScore. And it continues to grow.

One thing I am trying to be careful with....I am only "fanning" or "friending" other groups and pages that I would consider putting a link to on my website. By that I mean, groups that cover traffic and parking issues, or deal with similar products. I am joining these same groups with the hopes that people will look at my page and join it.

I don't think it works that well, unless you can hide the fact that you are marketing. People on facebook can smell marketing from a mile away and you won't last. If you can make content that is funny, crazy, weird, etc (viral stuff). You have to give them what you want and obviously viral stuff does well.

It's the marketing hidden within the viral that is the problem.

Facebook ads seem to work well for promotions that are internal to fb

If you wanna market your facebook group so find other relevant facebook groups and post a link with message of joining it in discussion boards. Grow your friend's list and update your facebook group link in status with a message of invitation of joining the group.

Sure, the primary reason I've done it is for marketing. But, I am also using it as an "outlet" for my DIY experiences.

Just post your group link with message of joining it to one or two relevant groups. So it won't consider as spamming and you can also update it on status with joining message

Marketing a facebook group is really a hard work, but now, there are so many techniques there with the help of which you can make thousands of members within few hours. I made a facebook group two days back and currently I am having more than 400 members. See how it happened :D
