    ok

we put an interesting product up on our site - it managed to increase our traffic by 50% and the page was linked to by many organisations - this was a genuine product and caused much interest

however today we have lost all our rankings on our keywords ??

our site can be found and the links can be found via site:www.sitename.com

why has this happened - this was genuine how can we convince Google of this

Welcome to the Google Dance / Sandbox.

If you keep getting links you will eventually come out and rank the same or even higher. This is something that happens to every site that gets many backlinks. I think its Google's process of Re-ranking you.

Just keep doing your thing (backlinks) and you will be fine.

LOL what is "sitename"? And which URL are you talking about for the product and which keyword were you ranking for but are no longer?

It's unlikely that this caused you to be penalized at Google. If the page is relatively new, Google often catapults new pages (and pages on new sites) to the top of the SERPs temporarily. Then after a few days (sometimes even a few weeks) there, the URL will fall back into the SERPs where it should "really" have been ranking all along. This could be what you are seeing.

If it is linked by many genuine organizations and you are unique in your field, then you don't have to worry, you will be back again pretty soon. Let others talk more about you.

I am afraid with two possibility
    1) Sand box - If your site are New - Then don't afraid need hard work for natural ranking.
    2) Cloaking - Google may thinking that your are cloaking. .... if it then big problem. I hope google not consider you as cloaker.

might have gotten slapped by big G... or for some reason you had some people out there on forums or review sites giving rep to your product and they went down or the backlink was removed... go use the Google Review search or Google Forum search for your site and see if thats what it is.

WTF would you think Google would think they are cloaking? Do you know what cloaking is? It has nothing to do with backlinks.

    - did you ever asked people, other site owners to link back to the product page with your given keyword?
    - if the links came naturally then that will be on various terms and from related sites. you can see all the sites linking you from google webmaster tool and write to google how all these are related to your business and linking you on various terms that came naturally. they will consider, if you asked others to link you then simply take those links off before writing to google to reconsider.

    Hi

    Thanks for all the info

the site is not new - approx 6+ years. its not just the 'interesting page' but ALL our keywords have been dropped - our site is still being indexed but we no longer appear on 1 - 10 pages on ANY keywords

the only thing that I can tell is that Google may be thinking "whoa hold on whats all these new links about"

I think its premature but to drop us ..is OTT - its been two days already

Unfortunately, without knowing your URLs and keywords they were previously ranking for everyone here is just going to be throwing out wild guesses that are likely only going to send you on wild goose chases.

I think if you're new here when you try to post a link DP blocks it ^^^ because that's what happened to me when I tried to post a link (doesn't happen anymore though)

There could be a million reasons why this happened. It likely has nothing to do with you acquiring a lot of links in a short period of time. I would just keep going. As long as you know you're not doing anything wrong, I would just keep on trucking. Relying on Google for business can be an extremely crazy rollercoaster ride. I've had sites drop out of sight, then reappear, then jump up and down fairly frequently. I grown tired of busting my head every time this happens. This is one reason why it's not good to put all your eggs in the Google basket.

Just keep learning more about SEO and keep building relevant and high quality links. We have little control over our "natural links" and I'm sure Google knows this.

Ive had my pages gone from first and been rebounded back to 6/7th. However after a few days i was back on the first page in a better postion. Google works in weird and wonderful ways so be patient and im sure you will be back in no time!
