I agree, it is pretty sick by todays standards. You're forgetting though that we're talking about the dark ages. People married young, several kings and queens of England were married off very very young. People's life expectancy was a lot less and they were lucky to live into their 30's or 40's.

Yes, it's all sickening by todays standards but you can't realy apply todays values and standards to something in the very distant past.

I'm far more worried that the age on consent in some countries today is 12 or 13 which is far more sickening.
