I ran into a post earlier where someone else got 2 identical amount checks for the same month. Just logged into my email and found the email from adsense team infroming me about duplicate checks they sent me as well (i'm yet to get the second one. i guess i wil get that on monday or so). In case this happens to anyone else where double checks are being mailed out for the same month, don't try to cash both of them. Only deposit one and destroy the other. Email from adsense team quoted for reference below: "Hello, We're writing to let you know about an issue with your July AdSense payment. Due to a Citibank processing error, we recently mailed you a duplicate AdSense check. Because Citibank only honors the deposit of checks with unique check numbers, you'll only be able to successfully deposit one of these checks. Please destroy the other check. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused. To help ensure smooth payment processing in the future, we recommend that you sign up for Electronics Funds Transfer (EFT). You can learn more about this form of payment at https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=15918 . Sincerely, The Google AdSense Team"
Very strange. I read that other post. I hope that people don't get in trouble if they naively try to cash both checks. You should just keep the other one as a joke with your buddies. "Yeah I have this check... but I think I'll wait to cash it." 3 monthes later... "OH CRAP i never cashed it. *show them check*" haha sorry. I got carried away. I was just trying to think of what (legal) fun you could have with an extra check.
It is really hard to believe that the error occurred with the mighty Citibank that co-ordinates with another giant google in paying the adsense publishers. The duplicate check may be taken as a consolation (and compensation for the low earnings!) from google for the publishers who are hit by the global recession but one should never ever try to encash the check (duplicate one) since Citibank will at least detect the duplicate one.
