2nd infraction: Moderator's email to me: Reason: Affiliate Links ------- send a pm, are you dense? I don't know if you are having a bad day or what, but this is rediculous. What affiliate links? I'm not even running any affiliate programs. I don't even have a sig. AND the guy asked us to POST for the URL. Moderator either sucks or is dense himself. what are you trying to prove???? My Post that received an infraction: ---Quote--- I'll try it again. I'm interested. I posted this morning asking you (exactly like you stated in your post) for the URL so I can check the site out. For some STUPID reason, I got an infraction - just for asking you to let me see the URL. Geeze. I'd like to know what the subject and target market is before I go posting an ad that has no value for the visitors. What's up with the infraction???? I'm not a freeken spammer and I could care less about my post count.
Wrong infraction type, right infraction points/time though. Most likely a misclick when selecting the infraction type. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/faq.php?faq=rules#faq_rules_replying Specifically...
The affiliate link infraction is the default selected infraction, so the mod simply may not have clicked closely enough to highlight another - it happens. Posting to complain about infractions can get you another though - in the future, please PM a moderator if you have questions about your personal infractions. Your first infraction in that thread was actually eligible for a 7 day ban. So be sure to keep that in mind moving forward, especially since you've already gotten two infractions / warnings for those PM me / Interested types of posts (even if the OP tells you to post, you cannot - they're not allowed to require it). When you're a new member, it's a good idea to review the rules. If you take some time to do that now (through the FAQ / Rules link in the nav bar), you'll be able to avoid getting other infractions in the future. You need to accumulate 10 points for it to have any real effect as far as bans go, so just ignore them, take them as a learning experience, and keep that particular rule in mind in the future. Then you'll be fine.
It does not matter the moderator you PM so long as you do not PM multiple mods. Nothing is more frustrating than spending time on an issue only to discover several others have already been involved. As the saying goes, "Too many cooks spoil the broth."
The last time I PM'd a mod about an issue, the response I got was something to the effect of "I didn't do it, another mod did, so I can't do anything about it." This left me with the option of "mod shopping" -- without even knowing which mod I was looking for. I was more than a bit frustrated.
We don't just go in and reverse another mod's bans and infractions on a whim, so they probably wouldn't make a call on their own. I tell people the same thing all the time. In those cases though I always forward the message to the appropriate mod. It's simply in their hands to make a decision based on the info passed along, and it's up to them whether or not to contact the member privately. I've had other mods pass info along to me when they're contacted, so I'm not the only one. The point is to only contact one mod. They'll either deal with it or pass it along to the appropriate mod. There's no need to run to several of us.
In the instance in question, the mod just ignored the issue and I was kind of stuck. It eventually turned out well, in the long run. The member who was affected by the error focused on being successful elsewhere and is now earning a high six-figure income -- almost because he was banned from DP. DP loses a lot of good people because of the "shoot first, ask questions never" methods of some moderators. When mods are afraid to question or correct the decisions of other mods, real problems never get fixed.
It's not that we don't question each other. If we think there's a problem we bring it up and make our case (a ban was reversed just a week or so ago because I made a case to the banning mod for it seeming unusually harsh for example). But what we do not do is undermine each other by going around reversing decisions. We respect each other enough to discuss it first, and highly questionable decisions are usually brought to more of a group decision.
heres the term under copa law you must be told on infraction why you revieved it and heres other one broken by here you can not state in a thread under infractions that you can give profile infraction with out stating in your rules whats allowed and whats not and if theres no rules to state profile infraction rules copa law broken so i suggest you do it or reported will not be using this site by people who are considered as staff issuing profile infractions with out rules whats not allowed or is the term power hungry.
I've never heard of a copa law, so I'll assume you mean COPPA law. First of all, COPPA stands for "Children's Online Privacy Protection Act" and applies only to children under the age of 13 in the United States (you are not in the United States, so the law doesn't apply to you... even if you were, it only applies if you are under 13, which you are not). Here's a link to the official COPPA law: http://www.ftc.gov/ogc/coppa1.htm As far as profile infractions being against COPPA law, please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm unable to find anything remotely like that in the text of the law (see previous link).
