Use Of Proxies...

This isn't a change in policy, just some enlightenment about something we look at when looking for/detecting duplicate accounts & spammers.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons for users to use proxy servers to access this site, but keep in mind that you become lumped in with all sorts of people using proxies to spam, hide duplicate accounts, etc.

By using proxies, you are associating yourself with everyone else using that proxy server. So you get rolled into the old "guilty by association" mantra.

If you are hanging out in a drug dealers house and the police raid the place, don't be surprised if you get arrested too. :)

Thanks Shawn to tell a different notice for us. I think most of newbies are doing it rather than a dedicated VPN. Most of proxy sites are using by hackers and spammers. At that time genuine member can be assigned as them.
So be aware with it, I think we better to use direct internet connection rather than a proxy/VPN.

    Good luck
    Blog.

Duh... I used proxies sometime back to vie DP coz I was unable to login directly. Some problem with ISP I think.

BTW I am not hanging out with drug dealers.

A few months back, DP was unreachable from much of India. I bet a lot of people were using proxies then!

Why everybody gotta be hating on da drug dealers?

Why you don't restrict all people who try to get this website by using a proxy?

Cough AOL, man am I glad I don't have that anymore, was banned on Atari's Forums cause AOL had some spammer and I happened to get the one IP that was banned and couldn't seem to get rid of it quick enough.

Well , you can use an check-back system if the IP is an open proxy. and you can simply deny public and non-secured proxy, and only allow secured-proxy

I log onto the forum from my job almost everyday. It's a fortune 500 company and uses proxies to funnel the IP traffic. I would hate it if I couldn't browse the forum when I was at work. I would be so bored for 8 hours a day. Most of the jobs I have had in the last 4 years have been with huge companies that use proxies to filter web surfing. Blocking proxy's would such at least for me. No more dp at work.

Yes, for example, I think it's queer that I can't browse this site without a proxy!
    Do I sense a need of intervention...... j/k :p

I am curious to know if one can use Opera Mini to login, browse etc. in DP "safely" or not? Opera Mini has its own servers to render pages to mobile phones, to make browsing much faster.
