Should You Link to Your Site in your Signature?

Is it a good idea to have a link to a site you are marketing in your signature, even if the topic may be unrelated to the forum.

I see many members here who link to sites like "Dating" or "weight loss"

does this really help comming from a forum about SEO?

I'd only link to it if I thought others would find it interesting, insightful and/or useful to them. Even if it was on a related forum. Otherwise I'd just be wasting space (and bandwidth).

it is better if you have related sites.... else just sell your spot and buy links from related forums/sites in the same price....

I think forum members that put their links in their signature just promote their web / blog, not affect in SERP. Just it....

Signature backlinks have some weight on link building if it is truely related.

Are there any other 'sneaky' little ways of getting links out there like this, that are not the mainstream common ways such as directory submissions?

Put something in your sig. It's totally fine. DP is an authority forum site, not a bad neighborhood. You can get quality backlinks from posting here.

Absolutely! Signatures with your address are backlinks. These backlinks add up with you get thousands of posts on a particular forum.

Sigs can serve as a bit of marketing but that comment is completely asinine(nothing personal). But, as I tell folks daily, please keep up the 10 year old dimwitted methodology. It keeps me in business.

if you are talking about SEO then forum signatures will help you very little. not unless if you have millions of posts. with few hundres or even few thousand posts, you will not see any measurable benefit.

I've got well over 15,000 posts on SitePoint. Even when they let the search engines follow links they didn't do much of anything rankings wise beyond sit there and look pretty.

Link back from relevant content is the best process. I think I am secure about that. Because I am using SEO Signature from this SEO forum and obviously SEO topics.

I have done it for the traffic (and it works fine), but sure also good for SEO, especially if you are active. You can really build up alot of links (here on DP dofollow links) over time.
