BackLinks ???

I am a newbie in bringing up my website to the market, i have direct traffic to my website as of now www.itforumz.com 10000 page views in a week. As i have tonnes of friends. Now i am looking for some serious traffic from search engines and other sources, i have heard a lot about backlinks? what are these and how can i start this?..please help.

 

Backlinks = links pointing to your website. You get trustworthy in Google if you have as many backlinks as you can. It is supposed that if people point to your website, the information found there is genuine.

Now, Google has a rating system of websites too. It's called PAGE RANK. Through a formula that implies BACKLINKS, INDEXED LINKS etc. in Google, it determines the PAGE RANK of your website. The higher Page Rank, the higher search engine optmization (SEO) you have for your website.

How can you get backlinks?
By doing link exchanges with other websites (preffered from the same niche/domain as yours), being active on other forums, commenting on blogs, web directories. Be carefuil though: some websites don't kinda' want you to have a backlink from them, so they put the tag NOFOLLOW next to your link so that it won't be considered a backlink.
You have to be cautious and try to be active with your website's link on other websites who have DOFOLLOW and higher PAGE RANK.

This forum would be a good place to get a lot of backlinks. I suggest you should seriously do your SEO drive on regular basis to get enough backlinks over few months span.

1. Is the name ITFORUMZ fine as i have technical stuff as well as entertainment (online movies, tv shows, jokes & stuff).
2. Is VBulletin comes up with the SEO modules, plugin or something inbuilt which can help me with the optimization.
3. For on page optimization i do have to concentrate on meta tags, is there a script or something which can be put in place of content or keyword which can be spider friendly so instead of some specific keywords whole website can be tracked for each and evry word in the website.

I don't know if VB comes with any SEO Mod, as I've never owned it. You can check in your control panel, to find out. There's a forum I know that uses VB and it has search engine-friendly URLs. This is the site: www.daniweb.com/forums/

Even if the Mod isn't inbuilt, you can hire a PHP developer to do it for you, by implementing Apache Mod-rewrite/.htaccess.
