PageRank - Essential?

    Morning all.

I am getting some traffic, in my internet marketing forum from Search Engines from keywords such as "make money online, adsense earning, adsense ban, why don't I make money from adsense". I am getting nearly ~5 uniques per day from SE (200 uniques totally though from miscelleneous promotion) but considering it's a small forum with 220 threads and all are indexed by google it's not that bad. Well, I am expecting a PageRak of 3, 4 and the current pagerank is 0. If the pagerank will raise, do I have any chances to go for some pages forwarder? I always thought that yes, but I saw that some people say pagerank doesn't affect anything  So, does it? Will I get a better google position with a higher pagerank? It's obvious that yes, but I have to be convinced, cos as I told people say it's not helpful  So what's your opinion?

The more links you have pointing to your site, the higher it will rank. PR is also passed through links, so sites with a lot of links tend to have high PR.

you probably already have pagerank it just is not forwarded to the toolbar.
the update does not affect your rankings.

PR alone does not really count in the calculation for your rankings.

If you get one link from a site with a pr 8 with only 2 or 3 links on that page together with yours you would probably have a pr 5 or 6. Would that make your site a quality site? I think not.

I have seen enough pages with a pr 5 and even 6 with just a few backlinks

If you want to get better rankings I suggest you get quality links (site votes) from sites in the same niche.

    Forget pagerank...

    Yep that is the idea.

A link from a dentist while you sell handpainted balloons will have no affect.
The same goes the other way arround. Be careful to whom you link. Linking to everyone and anything may cause your site to get partially indexed.

In other words be careful with reciprocal links.

From my experience page rank doesnt give you any additional traffic my site with a pr 0 is doing better than the ones with pr4 or 5

Pagerank is definetly an aspect in where you rank in Google but it is not the only aspect. One of the key parts of pagerank is that in the confusion as to it's purpose, people feel inclined to get as high a pagerank as possible, and due to this it is possible to profit from having a higher pagerank. I hear text links on Pagerank 8 and 9 sites rake in up to $500 for a month solely based on the rank and therefore having a site with a rank like this is well worth pushing for.

IMO PR is a byproduct of linking. It's the URL that passes PR and the anchor text that passes ranking value.

There's a good example of what I'm referring to in this thread.

A site that ranks poorly despite a nice PR.

I currently don't have a PR, but I do have over 1,500 backlinks with a PR predict of 5. But all my games on my website, if you search on google I am mostly on the front page. Even popular searches like "doom."

Please show me a legit PR9 link available for just $500 per month.....that is very low.

Most people think that Pr is the way to rank on Google! But get it out of your dam heads people that was old Google the only way you are going to rank on Google is by more links to your site, unique content and big sites like SitePoint linking to you.

For Pr its only now used for selling links on your site, i still don't see the point of wanting your pr up ;)

Get more links to your site, write more unique content and start contacting bigger sites if they would link to you!
