Purchased Good Domain with Directory - What next..?

Discussion in 'Directories' started by BannerSpaces, Aug 5, 2009.

    Hello chaps.

I have just purchased a www.dropshipping.org.uk and as you can see it’s a directory. Problem is that I purchased the domain and the abillity to download the data through the back end only.. I cannot access the server to pull down the files and stuff as this was not part of the deal.

Now from what I can guess it’s running on ESyndicate, and I have managed to login to the back end and sort of look at the data and stuff.
When I have tried to Export the data it throws up a lot of errors which is not helping matters. – As you can guess I am not a techy..

I have actually run a couple of directories in the past using phpld and I really like how easy it is to use and with a few plugins I am 80% sure this is what I want to use for the new version of the directory... I guess what I am asking is shall I keep to ESyndicate or shall I change to phpld. What are the implications of changing it over database wise and what do you think google thinks of phpld as I keep seeing directories using phpld with a pr0..

So I guess I am looking for someone that has experience in ESyndicate from a programming point of view. Now I don’t have a problem in investing money in new directory software but I am looking for someone that knows what they are doing from a technical side as I need to smarten everything up.. If any of you have any suggestions on what I should do I would be grateful.

    Thanks in advance

    Sam

IMO you are not smart from the first step to choosing ESyndicate as the directory software,
you can hire someone here to switch the data from ESyndicate to phpLD.

Rubbish. Esyndicat is a perfectly good directory script. I fail to see what's wrong with running that script, plenty good directories run it.

Not only it is a very good script, it is way better than the one you are recommending.

Phpld is the most popular directory script around the web,
Just stay with this script if you are happy,
Otherwise switch to phpld, you will not be wrong.

Hey Mikey, you are here after a long time !!

Nothing wrong with ESyndicat. @Wallace: Have you used admin section of Esyndicat?

@BannerSpaces: I think if you own the domain you can change the DNS settings to any hosting you like. I don't see how you can buy a domain without changing 'ownership'.

Oh dear. From what I could understand of your post, you think I must be intoxicated to have said there was nothing wrong with esyndicat?

Well there isn't. That's my opinion. Just like you had yours....

Go look around. Mhamdi has a good directory using that script.

Changing the script is up to you, really. I don't see anything wrong with your directory but if you feel that you are more familiar and at ease at phpLD, then do switch to that script.

I will chime in with Esyndicat. I've been using them for years, back from the days when ... well don't even want to say.
So my opinion, go with Esyndicate...and if you go for PHPLD, make sure you get some good mods for the spam or change your submit.php to something else or be prepared for lots of bot submissions.

Explain why you have come to that conclusion.
    That's utter nonsense.
