Here's my best tip for DMOZ:

Forget about it and move on.

You will only waste your time. As far as i know Google now owns it and they are not adding sites. If you have the money, buy a listing on the Yahoo Directory, otherwise just use your time to build links that you know you can get.

Submit and forget. DMOZ appears to be dying a slow and agonizing death. While a listing in a top level category can still be helpful, my experience is that if a site gets listed at all it is usually buried so deep as to be virtually invisible.

When is the last time anyone saw any traffic being referred from DMOZ? The only people I know that use it are webmasters researching niches and/or competition.

Submit to the right category, and make sure your website looks genuinely good.

I just submit and forget. It is not worth following it but don't forget to submit at least once. It will not get any traffic but definitely helps in ranking though.

I reupped my Yahoo directory because last time it boosted me a little. DMOZ not happening unless maybe you volunteer as an editor.

I tried that too, i did applyed for editor position, they answered, really quick this time,, and they told me that for a begginer i can only get a smaller catagory to edit, with lees sites, whatever, i've applied again for a smaller category, and after that, the dark fall out.
I haven't heard anything from them in 3-4 months by now...
pretty un...proffesional if i can use this term:rolleyes:

Yes, I went through that routine a few years ago for a category that had languished without an editor for a couple of years. Life is too short, and time too precious, to apprentice for a dying entity.

But DMOZ are too long term in approving your sites or blogs. It takes 1 year to be approved.

So if DMOZ and Yahoo are the big two, what are 3, 4 and 5?

Approval time in Dmoz takes forerver, almost. Bribe the Dmoz editors to get listed fast, kidding! Seriously, don't waste your time in Dmoz, there are more effective linkbuilding methods that deliver results.

My site has got listed in DMoz but in backlinks it is not seen, what to do, they have too much listings and I think crawler can't crawl it all internal pages.
But as it is the one of best directory and its hard to get listed in DMOZ, they have maintained quality and if they are not maintaining there quality, how could, web masters and other peoples trust on them.

you just don't need it to appear in backlinks but you can try this in google "www.yoursite.com" <-- this way you can check where this URL appears

now....how much it took you ?

I agree, the first thing to do is research your category, if not your chances are slim to none. But yeah I also agree with the 'Submit and Forget' rule. I also submitted 2 years ago and have not heard anything yet... I don't plan on it either, personally I think DMOZ is over rated.
